Field of application belonging to the present invention
The present invention relates to a method for producing fatty acid esters using a plant-based oil or fat (including waste oil) and an alcohol using quick lime or magnesia lime at a temperature of 60 ° C. or less and at normal pressure with only stirring and specific gravity separation. And glycerin as a chemical raw material.
[0002]
When carbon dioxide is used as a fuel with oils and fats derived from plants that grow by absorbing carbon dioxide, the carbon dioxide emitted is an oxygen-containing organic compound that is absorbed by the plants and converted into oils and fats. It is a fuel that contributes to the prevention of global warming, which does not increase carbon dioxide on the surface of the earth that causes global warming even if it is burned as a fuel material. The present invention is to modify the viscosity into fatty acid esters in a state that can be used as a vehicle fuel, in order to make oils and fats that cannot be used as a fuel for automobiles or the like as they are as a substitute for light oil refined from petroleum raw materials, It can be used in the technical field of producing fuels that are effective in preventing global warming.
[0003]
Furthermore, since fatty acid ester fuels contain almost no sulfur in plant-based oils and fats, they emit little sulfur oxides during combustion, unlike fuels refined from petroleum and other fuels. This is a technical field for producing energy, which has a greater importance in the future, with fuels whose effects are reduced as compared with the case where light oil is used, and can be used as a field of sustainable energy production from plants.
[0004]
[Prior art]
BACKGROUND ART Conventionally, a method for producing a fuel or a fuel oil additive containing a fatty acid ester as a main component using a fat or oil as a raw material is known. For example, a method of reacting fats and oils and methanol in the presence of an acid such as sulfuric acid or an alkali such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide to obtain a fatty acid methyl ester and glycerin, followed by washing with water, neutralization, etc. for purification, respectively. There is. In such a conventional method, alkali or liquid alkali soap is removed in washing and refining of fatty acid methyl ester, and alkali chloride or alkali sulfide is discharged as waste by neutralization treatment to remove alkali from glycerin. A process is required.
[0005]
In addition, sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide are dangerous chemicals that cause burns when they come into contact with human skin, and very careful handling is required for safe handling. When a fatty acid ester is produced using sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide, liquid fatty acid sodium and liquid fatty acid potassium remain in the fatty acid ester. If fatty acid sodium and fatty acid potassium remain in the fuel as they are, they may corrode the engine during combustion, so they need to be removed. Thus, rinsing and washing water drainage are required. A possible invention was made by Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. as Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-271090. A method in which fats and oils and alcohol are reacted at a temperature of 90 ° C. to 240 ° C. such as specific gravity separation, a pressure of 0.2 MPa to 8 MPa, and a reaction time of 1 minute to 180 minutes using calcium oxide which does not remain as a liquid in the fatty acid as a catalyst. However, when the reaction system is used as a fuel and a fuel additive to add a large amount of energy by heating or the like in order to bring the reaction system to a temperature of 90 ° C. or more and a pressure of 0.2 MPa. Is less effective. Further, even if the reaction time is lengthened, 90 ° C. must be maintained, and additional energy for heating cannot be reduced.
[0006]
Prior to the publication of JP-A-2001-271090 of the invention of Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd., a method for producing a fatty acid ester from fats and oils and methanol using a calcium oxide catalyst was described in 1999 by S.M. According to Gryglewicz, 100 ml of a mixture of 0.0075 mol of calcium oxide with respect to 0.225 mol of methanol at a temperature of methanol boiling point (64 ° C.) was added to 50 g of oil at a temperature of 64 ° C. in BioResource Technology magazine. It has been reported that about 90% conversion was obtained with fatty acid methyl / oil after a reaction time of 0.5 hours. However, the amount of methanol used is greater than the amount of fats and oils, and glycerin, which is an effective chemical raw material produced with the production of fatty acid methyl, is dissolved in methanol, and methanol is distilled to purify glycerin from fatty acid methyl. Requires a high energy addition device. In addition, since the amount of methanol used is large, the amount of methanol remaining in the fatty acid ester increases, and it is necessary to remove methanol from the fatty acid ester by distillation with heating.
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-271090 from Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd., which does not use sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide as a catalyst and does not contain components that corrode the engine during combustion without performing washing treatment or drainage treatment of washing water. The effect of adding energy to heating to a high temperature or pressurizing to a high pressure in the method using the calcium oxide disclosed in the publication reduces the effect of suppressing the increase of carbon dioxide on the surface when the fatty acid ester is used as a fuel Challenges arise. The present invention can solve this problem because the addition of energy can be suppressed small by producing the reaction at a reaction temperature of 60 ° C. or lower and normal pressure.
[0008]
S. The concentration of methanol in the fatty acid ester produced by the method of adding methanol twice as much as fat and oil proposed by Biotechnology Technology magazine by Gryglewicks is increased, and the fatty acid ester is subjected to a distillation treatment with heating to remove methanol. Energy must be added at the time of heating, and there is a problem that the effect of suppressing an increase in carbon dioxide on the ground surface is reduced. Therefore, in the present invention, the problem can be solved by reducing the amount of methanol present in the fatty acid ester by reducing the amount of alcohol added to that of fats and oils, and by avoiding distillation requiring heating.
[0009]
In addition, S.I. According to the method of adding methanol twice as much as fats and oils proposed by Glyglewicz in BioResource Technology magazine, glycerin is present in alcohol, and a large amount of alcohol must be removed by distillation by heating. However, there is a problem that energy must be added at the time of heating, and the effect of suppressing an increase in carbon dioxide on the ground surface is reduced. Therefore, in the present invention, the glycerin layer can be formed under the fatty acid ester layer in the specific gravity separation after the reaction by reducing the amount of the alcohol added to the fat or oil, and the alcohol contained in the glycerin layer is reduced to 30% or less. Therefore, the problem can be solved by allowing the alcohol in glycerin to evaporate by standing at room temperature and avoiding the distillation that requires heating.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present inventors have conducted intensive studies to solve the above-mentioned problems, and as a result, using quick lime (calcium oxide) as a catalyst from fats and oils, an appropriate amount of catalyst, an appropriate amount of alcohol, and an appropriate amount of alcohol at 60 ° C or less. It was found that the reaction would proceed if the reaction was carried out even under temperature conditions. Furthermore, it was found that fatty acid esters and glycerin were formed from oils and fats and alcohols by using fortified lime (a mixture of magnesium oxide and calcium oxide) as a catalyst. I found it. When quick lime and formic lime are used as catalysts to produce fatty acid esters and glycerin from fats and alcohols, the fatty acid calcium (calcium soap) or fatty acid magnesium (magnesium soap) generated from the free fatty acids present in the fats and oils during the reaction is Since it is precipitated as a solid in the liquid fatty acid ester, its separation is easy. Further, since quick lime and formic lime used as catalysts are solid, they can be easily recovered from liquid fatty acid esters and glycerin, and can be used again as catalysts for generating fatty acid esters and glycerin from fats and oils and alcohols.
[0011]
The method for producing fatty acid methyl ester and glycerin of the present invention is characterized by comprising the following steps.
(1) At least one solid catalyst of 4 to 6 mol of alcohol, 1 to 2 mol of quick lime (calcium oxide) or formic lime (mixture of magnesium oxide and calcium oxide) is added to 1 mol of fat and oil. The reaction step (2) of stirring at 60 ° C. or lower, the product obtained by the reaction step is allowed to stand for 24 hours or more, and the fatty acid ester, glycerin and the solid catalyst are separated by specific gravity (3) The fatty acid ester is filtered, Fatty acid ester purification step of removing calcium compound and magnesium compound (4) Glycerin purification step of evaporating and removing alcohol from glycerin by standing at room temperature
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail. The fats and oils include vegetable fats and oils. Examples of the vegetable oils include soybean oil, rapeseed oil, corn oil, sunflower oil, sesame oil, olive oil and the like, or a mixture of two or more thereof. These fats and oils are not limited to clean ones, but may be waste oils.
[0013]
Alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, n-propanol and isopropanol are suitable for use as fuels or fuel oil additives.
[0014]
As the solid catalyst, at least one of quick lime and formic lime is used. For quicklime (calcium oxide), 95% quicklime used as a fertilizer or as a desiccant, and scallop shells fired at 900 ° C can also be used. For example, magnesite lime (a mixture of magnesium oxide and calcium oxide) can be used as fertilizer.
[0015]
Hereinafter, each step will be specifically described using methanol as an example.
(1) Reaction step: 13-30% by weight of methanol and 13% by weight or more of at least one solid catalyst of calcium oxide or a mixture of magnesium oxide and calcium oxide are added to 100% by weight of fat and oil. For 4 hours at 60 ° C., the mixture is stirred for 4 hours to synthesize fatty acid methyl ester and glycerin. By increasing the reaction time, a fatty acid ester fuel can be synthesized with low energy, and the effectiveness of the fuel for reducing carbon dioxide increases.
[0016]
(2) Separation Step The fatty acid methyl ester, glycerin, and the solid catalyst synthesized in the reaction step are in an emulsion state immediately after the reaction, but there is a difference in specific gravity between the fatty acid methyl ester, glycerin, and the solid catalyst. Specific gravity separation is possible under gravity. Specific gravity separation can also be performed by centrifugation, but by not using energy required for the centrifugation, energy saving is achieved, and the effectiveness of fuel as carbon dioxide reduction is enhanced.
[0017]
(3) Fatty acid ester refining step Since the fatty acid methyl ester separated by specific gravity contains a calcium mixture and a magnesium mixture, it must be removed when used as a fuel or a fuel oil additive. As a removal method, the calcium mixture and the magnesium mixture are purified to 5 ppm or less which does not affect engine corrosion by filtration through a column filled with activated carbon to a thickness of 5 cm.
[0018]
(4) Glycerin Purification Step The glycerin separated by specific gravity contains 20% by weight of methanol and a small amount of a mixture of liquid calcium and liquid magnesium. Methanol has a disinfecting ability and does not require purification when used as a disinfectant skin lubricant, but when used as a food material, it is necessary to remove methanol. The methanol is removed by standing at room temperature. When ethanol is used, it is not necessary to remove ethanol when used as an edible raw material.
[0019]
In addition to the fatty acid methyl ester and glycerin obtained by the above steps, the solid catalyst separated during purification can be reused as a catalyst. The used solid catalysts are quicklime and magnesite lime, and can be used as an effective fertilizer because they contain fatty acid calcium and fatty acid magnesium. When the free fatty acid content is high in the fat or oil, fatty acid calcium or fatty acid magnesium is generated. It can be used as livestock feed and fish feed. Further, methanol recovered from glycerin can be used again for the synthesis of fatty acid methyl esters, so that non-reusable waste is not generated.
[0020]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to examples, but the present invention is not limited to these examples.
[0021]
Example 1
151 g of rapeseed oil and 48 g of methanol as fats and oils and 36 g of calcium oxide as a solid catalyst were weighed and placed in a 300 ml round bottom flask. A round bottom flask containing the reactants was attached to a rotary reactor equipped with a hot water bath, immersed in a hot water bath whose temperature was controlled at 60 ° C., taken out 4 hours later, immediately transferred to a 500 ml beaker, and allowed to stand at room temperature for 24 hours. Next, in a 500 ml beaker, a layer of fatty acid methyl ester, calcium soap, glycerin, and calcium oxide was formed from above. The fatty acid methyl ester layer was separated and filtered through a column in which activated carbon and calcium hydroxide were mixed to obtain a fatty acid methyl ester containing only 5 ppm or less of a base component. As a result of measurement by gas chromatography, the production rate of fatty acid methyl ester was 92.6%. In addition, the calcium soap and the glycerin layer were filtered with a filter paper to obtain calcium soap on the filter paper and glycerin below the filter paper. Methanol was recovered at 90 ° C. for 20 minutes under distillation conditions, and it was confirmed that glycerin contained 22% of unreacted methanol. The glycerin from which methanol was recovered contained no impurities, and was in a state where it could be used effectively as a chemical raw material.

As a result of measurement by gas chromatography, the production rate of fatty acid methyl ester was 94.8%.

A round-bottomed flask containing the reactants was attached to a rotary reactor equipped with a hot water bath, immersed in a hot water bath whose temperature was controlled at 60 ° C., taken out 4 hours later, immediately transferred to a 500 ml beaker, and allowed to stand at room temperature for 24 hours. Next, in a 500 ml beaker, a layer of fatty acid methyl ester, calcium soap, glycerin, and calcium oxide was formed from above. The fatty acid methyl ester layer was separated and filtered through a column in which activated carbon and calcium hydroxide were mixed to obtain a fatty acid methyl ester containing no more than 5 ppm of a base component. As a result of measurement by gas chromatography, the production rate of fatty acid methyl ester was 92.5%.

【The invention's effect】
According to the present invention, a purification process that requires a water-washing treatment of a fatty acid ester and a drainage treatment of the washing water in a method for producing a fatty acid ester and glycerin from an oil and fat using a conventionally used sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. The additional energy such as heating and pressurization is reduced compared to the method using a calcium oxide catalyst which can avoid the problem. It is expected that the reduction will be realized and the effect as a fuel for reducing carbon dioxide will be enhanced.

According to the present invention, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-271090 discloses a temperature of 90 ° C. to 240 ° C. using a calcium oxide catalyst. It can be estimated that it can be reduced by 30% or more. Further, since the present invention is carried out at normal pressure, since no pressure vessel is required for production, the effect of reducing equipment costs can be expected.
