【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は携帯電話、パーソナルコンピュータ、PDA等の民生用電子機器やその他広く一般電子機器に使用できる赤外線データ通信モジュールとそれを搭載した電子機器に関するものである。

【従来の技術】
特に最近、携帯電話、PDA、パーソナルコンピュータ等の赤外線データ通信機能を搭載した電子機器の小型化に伴って、それに搭載される赤外線データ通信モジュールの小型化が強く要求されている。

このような赤外線データ通信モジュールとしては、LED等からなる赤外線発光素子、フォトダイオードからなる赤外線受光素子及び赤外線発光素子を駆動するための駆動回路と受光素子からの電気信号を増幅する増幅回路等を内蔵したICチップをプリント配線基板や金属製フレームに直接ダイボンド及びワイヤボンデイングし、そして、赤外線透過性エポキシ樹脂からなるレンズ部で赤外線データの送信部と受信部が一体となるように封止した構造の赤外線データ通信モジュールが開発されている。

従来の赤外線データ通信モジュールの具体的な構造を図18、19及び20を用いて説明する。図18は従来の赤外線データ通信モジュールの本体を示す斜視透過図、図19はこの本体をシールドケースで被覆して完成した赤外線データ通信モジュールを示す斜視図、図20はこの赤外線データ通信モジュールを電子機器のプリント配線基板に搭載した状態を示す断面図である。

これらの図において、1は赤外線データ通信モジュール自体を示している。そして、2はガラスエポキシ等の耐熱性及び絶縁性を有する材料で形成された赤外線データ通信モジュール1のベース基板を成すプリント配線基板であり、その板面の前後両面に図示していないがエッチング等で形成し相互にスルーホールで電気的に接続している電極パターンを備えている。

また、このプリント配線基板2は、その前面側のLEDチップを装着する箇所にLEDチップの指向性や発光強度を向上させるためにドリルによる切削加工等でカップ状の凹部3を形成し、この凹部3の中央部にLEDチップ7をダイボンド及びワイヤボンデイングにより装着している。

4は赤外線受光素子としてのフォトダイオードであり、プリント配線基板2の表面側においてLEDチップ7と所定距離隔てた位置にダイボンド及びワイヤボンデイング等により装着されている。

5はLEDチップ7を駆動するための駆動回路とフォトダイオード4からの電気信号を増幅する増幅回路等を内蔵したICチップであり、プリント配線基板2の前面側において、フォトダイオード4とLEDチップ7との間に装着されている。

6は赤外線波長以外の光を遮断する特性を持つエポキシ系樹脂等で形成された封止部材であり、プリント配線基板2の前面側に重合して設けられて該プリント配線基板2の前面を封止している。特に、この封止部材6は、フォトダイオード4とLEDチップ7に対向する箇所に半球型のレンズ部6a及び6bを形成しており、これらレンズ部に赤外線光の照射角度の調整や集光の機能を持たせている。

このように形成されるプリント配線基板2と封止部材6とからなる本体30を、図19に示すように、電子機器のプリント配線基板8に接する面とレンズ部6a、6bを除いて、全体を鉄、銅等の電磁シールド効果を有する材料で形成されたシールドケース11で被覆して、赤外線データ通信モジュール1が完成する。このシールドケース11は、プリント配線基板2の背面のアースパターン16と重なるように、封止部材6の上面に塗布した接着剤10により接着されている。

このプリント配線基板2は多層基板を用いており、配線パターンの引き回しが自由に行えるため、図20に示すように端子部14を除いて、アースパターン16をプリント配線基板2の背面の全域に設けている。

さらに、シールドケース11は、レンズ部6a、6b間において、電子機器のプリント配線基板8のアースパターン31との電気的接続を得るための半田付け用延長部12を有している。そして、プリント配線基板2の背面側に設けた端子部14で電子機器のプリント配線基板8の端子部13にリフロー等の半田付け手段により半田付けするとともに、シールドケース11の延長部12でプリント配線基板8のアースパターン31に半田付けすることにより、赤外線データ通信モジュール11は電子機器に実装される。9は、その半田を示している。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
赤外線データ通信機能を備えた特に携帯電話、PDA、パーソナルコンピュータ等の民生用電子機器では、最近急速な小型化が進み、これに伴って、赤外線データ通信モジュールに対する小型化の要求が非常に強くなっている。

しかしながら、通信距離や通信指向性等の性能を満足させるには、レンズ部6a,6bの径や高さの小型化には限界があり、また、赤外線通信データの高速化に伴って電磁ノイズの影響が大きくなっており通信性能確保のために電磁シールドが不可欠になっている。

この電磁シールドを目的としたシールドケース11は、プリント配線基板8のアースパターン31と電気的に接続する必要がある。そのため、シールドケース11に半田付け用の延長部12を設け、アースパターン31に延長部12を半田付けすることによって両者を電気的に接続している。しかし、延長部12をシールドケース11の前面より前方に出っ張って設けるとともに、実装された赤外線データ通信モジュール1のシールドケース11の前面より前方にはみ出すようにアースパターン31をプリント配線基板8上に配置する必要があることから、実装面積が赤外線データ通信モジュール1より大きくなっており、小型化阻害要因の一つとなっている。

また、シールドケース11は、前記の通り本体30に接着剤により固定されているので接着剤硬化前の本体30とシールドケース11の位置ずれによりシールドケース11が浮き上がった状態で固定され、プリント配線基板8上に赤外線データ通信モジュール1を搭載したときに、シールドケース11の半田付け用の延長部12がプリント配線基板8の端子部13から浮くことにより半田が付かず通信性能不良が発生する場合がある。

本発明は、前記のような従来の赤外線データ通信モジュールにおける問題点を解消するためになされたものであり、その目的は、赤外線データ通信の性能を劣化させることなく赤外線データ通信モジュールのプリント配線基板への実装面積を小さくし、電子機器の小型化に寄与するものであり、特に、赤外線データ通信モジュールの形状を縮小することなく実装面積の小型化を行うことである。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上記の目的を達成するために本発明では、シールドケース11で本体30を被覆するとともに、シールドケース11の背面11Cに設けた接続片15をプリント配線基板2の配線端子部14に接触させている。これにより、赤外線データ通信モジュール1を電子機器のプリント配線基板8に搭載する際、半田フローによりシールドケース11の半田付け用接続片15を配線端子部14とともにプリント配線基板8のアースパターンに電気的に接続させることができる。したがって、シールドケース11の延長部12が不要となり赤外線データ通信モジュール1の実装面積を縮小することができる。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の実施形態を図面に従って詳細に説明する。

<第1の実施形態>
図1は、第1の実施形態の赤外線データ通信モジュールの本体の外形を示す斜視透過図、図2は、本体をシールドケースで被覆して完成した赤外線データ通信モジュールを示す斜視図、図3はこの赤外線データ通信モジュールを電子機器のプリント配線基板に搭載(実装)した状態を示す斜視図である。

これらの図において、赤外線通信データモジュールの構造そのものを含め、従来と同一の部分には従来と同一符号を付して説明する。

従って、1は赤外線データ通信モジュール、2はプリント配線基板、3はLEDチップの指向性や発光強度を向上させるためにドリルによる切削加工等でカップ状に形成された凹部であり、その中央部にLEDチップ7をダイボンド及びワイヤボンデイングにより装着している。

6は赤外線波長以外の光を遮断する特性を持つエポキシ系樹脂等で形成された封止部材であり、プリント配線基板2の前面側に重合して設けられて該プリント配線基板2の前面を封止している。

6a及び6bは、フォトダイオード4とLEDチップ7に対向する箇所において封止部材6の前面に膨出して形成された半球型のレンズ部であり、赤外線光の照射角度の調整や集光の機能を持っている。

このシールドケース11は、ほぼ四角柱体をなしている本体30の底面を除く天面、前面、背面及び両側面を覆うほぼ四角形の枠体から成るもので、前面部11Bは従来のシールドケースと同様にレンズ部6a、6bを被覆しない形状に形成されている。

このシールドケース11において、天面部11Aと背面部11Cの境界線19に沿って、背面部11Cの中央部に直線状のスリット27を設けるとともにこのスリット27の左右両側における天面部11Aに曲げ位置の強度が弱くなるような先端の尖った形状の多角形の穴17、17を設け、更に、境界線19のスリット27と穴17の無い部分に薄肉部21、21を設けている。

そして、このように形成されたシールドケース11を図2に示すように背面部11Cを開いたままの状態で本体30の前面と上面と側面に被せ、この状態で、背面部11Cを境界線19上の薄肉部21、21に沿って折り曲げるとともに両側面部11D、11Eに設けた押圧片18、18をその付け根部に形成した薄肉部20、20に沿って折り曲げると、図3に示すように背面部11Cがプリント配線基板2の背面を被覆して背面部11Cの一方縁部に突出して設けた半田付け用接続片15がプリント配線基板2の背面側の配線端子部14に接触するとともに押圧片18、18が背面部11Cをそのオモテ面より押圧することとなり、シールドケース11が本体30を完全に被覆することになる。

このようにして、シールドケース11で本体30を被覆し、接続片15を配線端子部14に接触させておくことにより、赤外線データ通信モジュール1を電子機器のプリント配線基板8に搭載する際、半田フローによりシールドケース11の半田付け用接続片15も配線端子部14と同時にプリント配線基板8のアースパターン31(図3参照)に電気的に接続させることができる。

尚、このシールドケース11の接続片15の先端の切断面には半田等によるメッキを施しておくことが望ましい。これは、シールドケース11の接続片15の半田付け性を良くするためである。

本来シールドケース11は、表面に半田等によるメッキ処理を行った基材を使用してプレスにて打ち抜きから曲げ加工を行って製造されるが、この打ち抜き加工を行った際の切断面は鉄等のシールドケース素材が剥き出しになっており、半田は切断断面には付かないことから少なくともシールドケース11の接続片15の切断面や側面にメッキ処理を行うことにより半田付け性を向上させることが可能となるからである。

また、シールドケース11の背面部11Cに設けたスリット27、天面部11Aに設けた穴17、17及び薄肉部21、21によりシールドケース11の曲げ位置の曲げ強度が弱くなり曲げ位置の精度が上がるとともに曲げに要する力を低減でき、本体30に対するストレスを抑えることができる。

また、背面部11Cを折り曲げた後に両側面部11D、11Eに設けた押圧片18、18を薄肉部20、20に沿って折り曲げることにより背面部11Cをプリント配線基板2の背面に押圧することができ、背面部11Cがスプリングバック(曲げの反発力)によって復帰しようとするが、これを押さえて接続片15を端子部14から浮き上がるのを防止することができる。この押圧片18、18の曲げ加工においても、薄肉部20、20により曲げ位置の曲げ強度が弱くなり、曲げ位置の精度が上がるとともに曲げに要する力を低減でき、本体30に対するストレスを押さえることができる。

尚、この押圧片18、18もスプリングバックによって背面部11Cより多少浮き上がるが、背面部11Cは曲げ加工された押圧片18、18の付け根部で保持されるため浮き上がることなく曲げ状態が保持される。

しかしながら、押圧片18、18の先端は浮き上がる傾向にあり、浮き上がった隙間に物が引っ掛かることで曲げ加工が変形する可能性があるので、押圧片18、18の長さを曲げ加工の支障にならない範囲内で可能な限り短くしたほうが良い。この押圧片18の長さは、その板厚との関係で調整する必要がある。

<第2の実施形態>
図4は、シールドケース11の押圧片18、18がスプリングバックの作用で浮き上がって変形するのを防ぐために提供された実施形態を示す平面断面図であり、この図から明らかなように、シールドケース11の背面部11Cの板面には押圧片18、18に対応する位置に、これら押圧片18、18が嵌まり得る大きさの凹部22、22を設けている。

この凹部22、22によって、押圧片18、18を折り曲げ加工した際、押圧片18、18は凹部22、22に嵌まり込むので、押圧片18、18にスプリングバックが発生しても、その隙間に物が引っ掛かって曲げ加工を変形させることはない。勿論、凹部22、22の深さは、押圧片18のスプリングバックによる浮き寸法より深く設定する必要がある。

<第3の実施形態>
図5は、シールドケース11の接続片15とプリント配線基板2の端子部14の機械的、電気的接触をより確実にする実施形態を示す側面断面図であり、この図から明らかなように、この実施形態ではシールドケース11の背面部11Cの内面に当接リブ23を設けるとともに接続片15の途中に屈曲部15aを設けている。

このように形成したシールドケース11で本体30の前面、上面、側面を被覆するとともに背面部11Cをプリント配線基板2の背面方向に境界線19上の薄肉部21で折り曲げると、当接リブ23が本体30の背面に当接してシールドケース11の背面部11Cを当該プリント配線基板2の背面より浮き上がらせるとともに接続片15を屈曲部15aによるバネ性を利用して弾力的に配線端子部14に接触させることになる。その結果、接続片15と配線端子部14の接触がより強固なものとなり、両者を確実に電気的に接続させることができる。

<第4の実施形態>
図6及び図7は、シールドケース11の接続片15とプリント配線基板の端子部14の機械的、電気的接触を、更に、確実にする実施形態を示す側面断面図であり、これらの図から明らかなように、この実施形態では前記第3の実施形態と同様にシールドケース11の背面部11Cの内面に当接リブ23を設けるとともに接続片15の途中に屈曲部15aを設けているが、この実施形態において特に特徴とする点は、図6に示すようなシールドケース11の背面部11Cが折り曲げられていない状態から図7に示すように背面部11Cを天面部11Aに対して直角に折り曲げた際、屈曲部15aの斜面と接続片15との織り成す角度が接続片15の先端部が点線で示すプリント配線基板2の輪郭線内に入り込むような、即ち、端子部14よりも内側となるような角度Qとしている点にある。

従って、このようなシールドケース11を実際に本体30の前面、上面、側面に被せ、背面部11Cを天面部11Aと直角となるように折り曲げると、接続片15の先端部がプリント配線基板2の背面の端子部14に当接して角度Qを小さくするように変形することとなり、そして、この変形は当接リブ23がプリント配線基板2の背面に当たるまで進む。

その結果、背面部11Cの折り曲げが完了した時点では接続片15には強いバネ作用が発生する。しかも、このとき、この折り曲げられた背面部11Cはシールドケース11の押圧片18、18で押圧されるので、接続片15のバネ作用は首尾良く維持され配線端子部14に強く押し当てられる。

<第5の実施形態>

図11はシールドケース11の接続片15の形状を改善した実施形態を示す赤外線データ通信モジュールの背面図であり、この図から明らかなように、この実施形態では、基本的に図8で説明した第5の実施形態と同様に、接続片15を配線端子部14に対して少し横方向にずらして当て、配線端子部14に接続片15が接触しない残余部14aを残しているが、この実施形態の特に特徴とするところは、接続片15の背面部11Cとの付け根部の幅を大きくするとともに先端部にかけて徐々に細くした点にある。即ち、接続片15を付け根から先端部にかけて斜めにカットした形状にしている。

以上説明したように本発明によると、赤外線データ通信の性能を劣化させることなく赤外線データ通信モジュールのプリント配線基板への実装面積を小さくし、前記電子機器の小型化に寄与することができ、赤外線データ通信モジュールの形状を縮小することなく実装面積の小型化を行うことができる。
