Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an ultrasonic probe and a manufacturing direction thereof, and more particularly, to an ultrasonic probe suitable for electronic deflection scanning of an ultrasonic beam and a manufacturing method thereof.
[0002]
[Prior art]
An ultrasonic probe is used in contact with the surface of a living body or inserted into a body cavity. Ultrasonic waves are transmitted and received by the ultrasonic probe, and an ultrasonic image is formed based on the received signals obtained thereby.
[0003]
An ultrasonic probe generally includes an array transducer in which a plurality of vibration elements are arranged, and a matching element array including a plurality of matching elements provided on the living body side of each of the vibration elements. Here, one unit of the superimposed vibration element and matching element can be referred to as a transmitting / receiving element for convenience. Ultrasonic waves are transmitted and received independently for each such transmitting and receiving element. Incidentally, in many cases, a plurality of matching elements are provided in multiple layers. In some cases, an acoustic lens or the like is disposed on the living body side of a plurality of transmitting / receiving elements, but the acoustic lens is basically used to enhance the convergence of ultrasonic waves in an elevation direction orthogonal to the electronic scanning direction. And does not focus or diffuse ultrasonic waves in the electronic scanning direction. Conventionally, the upper surface of each matching element (wave transmitting / receiving element) is a flat surface.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, in order to form a two-dimensional (or three-dimensional) ultrasonic image, it is necessary to form a two-dimensional (or three-dimensional) echo data capturing area. For this purpose, an ultrasonic beam is electronically scanned. . As the electronic scanning method, there are known an electronic linear scanning for translating an ultrasonic beam, an electronic sector scanning for deflecting and scanning an ultrasonic beam, and the like. In particular, in the case of the latter electronic sector scanning, it is necessary to obtain sufficient directivity (or sound power) even if the deflection angle of the ultrasonic beam is large.
[0005]
However, as described above, the living body side end of each matching element (transmitting / receiving element) forms a flat surface (because the pitch between the transmitting / receiving elements is also uniform). In general, the sound pressure level is highest in the orthogonal direction, and the sound pressure level decreases as the deflection angle of the ultrasonic beam increases, and it becomes difficult to obtain sufficient acoustic characteristics when the deflection angle is considerably large. Tendency.
[0006]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described conventional problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide an ultrasonic probe capable of improving acoustic characteristics even when a deflection angle of an ultrasonic beam is increased, and a method for manufacturing the same. It is in.
[0007]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
(1) In order to achieve the above object, the present invention includes a plurality of wave transmitting / receiving elements, and the living body side end of each of the wave transmitting / receiving elements has its edge with respect to its central portion withdrawn to the non-living body side. It has a convex shape.
[0008]
According to the above configuration, since the living body-side end (upper end) of each transmitting and receiving element has a convex shape, the directivity in transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves can be expanded as compared with a conventional flat shape. Therefore, in one-dimensional scanning or two-dimensional scanning of the ultrasonic beam, even if the deflection angle of the ultrasonic beam is increased, the transmission / reception characteristics can be improved. The living body side end of the above-mentioned transmitting / receiving element may be directly contacted with the living body, or may be indirectly contacted with the living body via another member such as an acoustic lens or a coupling liquid. .
[0009]
Desirably, each of the wave transmitting and receiving elements is a vibration element that transmits and receives ultrasonic waves, and a matching element that is provided on the living body side of the vibration element and that performs acoustic impedance matching between the vibration element and the living body, And the matching element has the convex shape. Here, the matching element has one or more layers. Incidentally, it is also conceivable to obtain the above-mentioned operation and effect by using only the vibration element as the above-mentioned wave transmitting and receiving element, and processing the end on the living body side of the vibration element into a convex shape.
[0010]
Preferably, the plurality of transmitting and receiving elements are arranged in an electronic scanning direction, each of the transmitting and receiving elements has a form extending in an elevation direction orthogonal to the electronic scanning direction, and at a living body side end of each of the transmitting and receiving elements. Two edges parallel to the elevation direction are chamfered, and the chamfer forms the convex shape.
[0011]
According to the above configuration, the ultrasonic beam pattern can be expanded in the electronic scanning direction, and the image quality can be improved particularly when the deflection angle of the ultrasonic beam is large.
[0012]
(2) Further, in order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a forming step of forming a polymer extending in the electronic scanning direction by providing a matching layer on a piezoelectric plate, and forming the polymer in the electronic scanning direction. Cutting in a plurality of orthogonal elevation directions, thereby forming a plurality of transmitting and receiving elements, wherein the cutting step cuts the polymer having a thickness corresponding to a pitch between the transmitting and receiving elements. A bevel cutting blade having a first portion that extends from the first portion and a second portion that is formed to be continuous with the first portion and that gradually increases in thickness from the first portion and spreads toward the base end of the blade. When a plurality of wave transmitting and receiving elements are formed by cutting the polymer with a cutting blade, two edges along the elevation direction at the living body upper end of each wave transmitting and receiving element are chamfered. And it features.
[0013]
According to the above configuration, if a plurality of cuttings are performed on the polymer using the bevel cutting blade, the plurality of wave transmitting / receiving elements can be cut and the respective wave transmitting / receiving elements can be chamfered at the same time, thereby simplifying the manufacturing process. Although the bevel cutting blade itself is generally known, the blade has not been conventionally used for cutting a polymer, and is therefore positioned as a new use of the blade.
