Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention includes an electrolyte-electrode assembly provided with electrodes on both sides of the electrolyte, and a pair of separators sandwiching the electrolyte-electrode assembly, in a separator surface facing the electrolyte-electrode assembly, The present invention relates to a fuel cell provided with a folded reaction gas flow path for meandering and flowing a reaction gas.
[0002]
[Prior art]
For example, a polymer electrolyte fuel cell has an electrolyte (electrolyte membrane) -electrode assembly in which an anode electrode and a cathode electrode are respectively provided on both sides of an electrolyte membrane composed of a polymer ion exchange membrane (cation exchange membrane). Is sandwiched between separators. This type of fuel cell is usually used as a fuel cell stack by laminating a predetermined number of electrolyte-electrode assemblies and separators.
[0003]
In this fuel cell, a fuel gas supplied to the anode side electrode, for example, a gas mainly containing hydrogen (hereinafter, also referred to as a hydrogen-containing gas), has hydrogen ionized on the catalyst electrode and passes through the electrolyte to the cathode side. Move to the electrode side. The electrons generated during that time are taken out to an external circuit and used as DC electric energy. Since an oxidant gas, for example, a gas mainly containing oxygen or air (hereinafter also referred to as an oxygen-containing gas) is supplied to the cathode side electrode, hydrogen ions, electrons, And oxygen react to produce water.
[0004]
By the way, in a fuel cell, when the contact resistance between the separator and the electrolyte / electrode assembly or between the separator and the separator increases, the internal resistance loss increases and the terminal voltage decreases. For this reason, it is necessary to apply a desired tightening load to the fuel cell in order to reduce the contact resistance. In particular, when a metal separator is used, deformation during press molding or fluid pressure (gas pressure or gas pressure) during power generation is required. Surface pressure distribution is likely to occur due to fluctuations in the refrigerant pressure). At that time, in a portion where the surface pressure is low, the resistance overvoltage increases, and the current density distribution in the electrode surface also changes.
[0005]
Therefore, for example, a fuel cell stack disclosed in US Pat. No. 5,484,666 is known. In this conventional technique, a plurality of openings are formed in the electrode surface so as to penetrate in the stacking direction, and tie rods are inserted into the openings and fixed to a pair of end plates at both ends in the stacking direction. The opening constitutes a fuel gas supply passage, a fuel gas discharge passage, an oxidant gas supply passage, an oxidant gas discharge passage, a cooling medium supply passage, and a cooling medium discharge passage.
[0006]
For this reason, in the prior art, compared with the configuration in which the tie rod is inserted into the outer peripheral edge portion of the fuel cell stack, the center side of the separator can be securely tightened and held, and particularly the surface pressure distribution of the metal separator is effectively reduced. be able to.
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the above prior art, one of the end plates is connected to the fuel gas supply passage, the oxidant gas supply passage and the cooling medium supply passage, and avoids the respective tie rods. A gas supply manifold and a cooling medium supply manifold are formed. Similarly, the other end plate communicates with the fuel gas discharge communication hole, the oxidant gas discharge communication hole, and the cooling medium discharge communication hole, and avoids the respective tie rods. A manifold and a cooling medium discharge manifold are formed.
[0008]
Therefore, each end plate must be formed with a plurality of manifolds having a considerably complicated shape. As a result, it has been pointed out that the production cost of the end plate is significantly increased, and that the operation of producing the end plate takes a long time, so that the fuel cell cannot be efficiently and economically produced.
[0009]
The present invention solves this kind of problem, and provides a fuel cell that can reliably and securely hold a desired tightening load and that can be manufactured efficiently and economically with a simplified configuration. With the goal.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In the fuel cell according to the first aspect of the present invention, a folded reaction gas flow path for meandering at least a reactant gas, which is an oxidizing gas or a fuel gas, in a separator surface facing the electrolyte electrode assembly. Is provided, and a fastening bolt insertion hole is formed at least outside the reaction gas flow path inside the turnback portion of the reaction gas flow path.
[0011]
Therefore, the fastening bolt can be inserted into the electrode surface, and the electrolyte / electrode assembly and the set of separators can be integrally and firmly fixed. In particular, even when a metal separator is used or the separator area is large, the surface pressure distribution in the separator surface is made uniform. This makes it possible to apply a desired tightening load to the fuel cell with a simple and economical configuration, reduce contact resistance, and reliably maintain desired power generation performance.
