TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a new type of X-ray imaging apparatus, and more particularly to an X-ray imaging apparatus which is effective when used as a medical examination apparatus.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, a normal X-ray imaging apparatus used for medical examinations includes an X-ray detector provided with pixels having sensitivity to X-rays, irradiates a subject with white X-rays, transmits the subject through a subject, and transmits each X-ray to the subject. It is configured to image using an integrated number of counts corresponding to the total amount of X-rays reaching the pixel.
In such an X-ray imaging apparatus, since the transmission amount of the whole white X-ray is detected irrespective of the absorption characteristics of each body tissue, an X-ray image having a high contrast so as to clearly display a target organ or the like can be obtained. Difficult to get.
[0003]
Therefore, it is conceivable to obtain an X-ray image with contrast by dispersing white X-rays with a spectroscope and photographing using monochromatic X-rays.
However, when tube X-rays are used for simplicity, the X-rays are emitted radially, and a spectroscope having a spectral surface formed on a spherical surface is required. Have difficulty.
In addition, the X-ray light source can be converted into parallel light by using emitted light, but the light source device becomes extremely large, and the entire device becomes large-scale, which is not practical.
[0004]
Furthermore, for example, coronary angiography using iodine as a contrast agent, the contrast agent X-ray absorptance utilizes an abrupt change at a certain wavelength to obtain an X-ray image obtained using monochromatic X-rays of different wavelengths. In the case of using a method of displaying a target portion from the difference by highlighting the image, it takes time to take an image each time the wavelength is changed, and furthermore, a structure for adjusting a spectroscope so as to separate X-ray energies and perform spectroscopy. Is complicated.
In particular, in the case of coronary artery imaging, if the heart is beating, if the difference between X-ray images taken at different times is taken, the position will be shifted and a clear arterial image cannot be generated.
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Therefore, a problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide an X-ray imaging apparatus that extracts and displays X-ray images of several objects having different X-ray absorption characteristics from a measurement output obtained by irradiating X-rays, An object of the present invention is to provide an X-ray energy analysis imaging apparatus, particularly an X-ray energy analysis imaging apparatus effective for medical examinations such as coronary angiography.
[0006]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above problems, an X-ray energy analysis imaging apparatus according to the present invention includes an X-ray detector, an X-ray generation device, a storage device, and an arithmetic processing unit in which pixels having energy resolution with respect to X-rays are arranged and spatial resolution is provided. The apparatus is provided with a device for irradiating a subject with X-rays to perform imaging, selecting an output signal at a desired X-ray energy for an output signal for each pixel of the X-ray detector, and forming an X-ray image.
According to the imaging apparatus of the present invention, once acquired X-ray latent image information can be used separately for each X-ray energy, only the count number for X-rays of a specific energy is obtained from the count number information for all energy components. Is extracted and imaged, an object having a high or low absorptivity of X-rays of the energy clearly emerges.
[0007]
Further, since monochromatic X-rays are performed by data processing, even when white X-rays from a tube are used, a complicated and expensive spectroscopic device is not required, and a highly practical device can be obtained.
The imaging apparatus of the present invention can be used as a so-called X-ray imaging apparatus for selectively displaying a built-in tissue. In addition, by using high absorption X-rays peculiar to the substance, it is possible to inspect for drugs or banned articles such as explosives and ivory concealed in luggage or the human body.
[0008]
The X-ray detecting element having energy resolution may generate an electric current corresponding to the energy of the X-ray when the X-ray enters the element, for example. In such an element, the energy spectrum of transmitted X-rays can be obtained by classifying and accumulating the number of times of current generation observed during a predetermined period according to the magnitude of the current.
Elements having the above characteristics include germanium Ge, cesium iodide CsI, and amorphous a-Si scintigraphy. Furthermore, a CdTe diode using cadmium telluride CdTe as a Schottky electrode can apply a high bias voltage, thereby shortening the charge collection time, and having a large mass number to have a high absorption rate of X-rays and gamma rays. Therefore, it can be used for an X-ray detection detector as an excellent element having high-speed response and high detection efficiency.
[0009]
The output of the X-ray detector is amplified by an amplifier and classified by current value to count the frequency. The count result for each detection element indicates the incidence frequency for each X-ray energy, and can be stored as digital information in a spectrum. The digitized information undergoes high-speed processing of the arithmetic processing unit, calculates the amount of X-ray detection for each element at the specified X-ray energy, and expands the plane corresponding to the pixel arrangement to obtain the X-ray at the specified X-ray energy. The transmission state can be displayed as a grayscale image.
[0010]
Further, an image may be formed based on a difference between output signals in different X-ray energy regions.
For example, in coronary angiography using an iodine contrast agent, when the difference between the X-ray detection counts at the two energies above and below the K-absorption edge of iodine is calculated, the count does not change so much in the part without the contrast agent, so that it is offset. As a result, the value becomes close to zero, and there is a difference between the portions of the blood vessel where the contrast agent exists, and the value increases. Therefore, if an image is generated based on the difference in count numbers above and below the K absorption edge, an image showing only the blood vessel portion is obtained, which is convenient for diagnosis.
In order to perform energy difference by ordinary coronary angiography, it is necessary to irradiate monochromatic X-rays of two different wavelengths. However, using the apparatus of the present invention, two measurements are taken from the measurement values obtained by irradiating white X-rays. Since the image is obtained by performing the difference processing by selecting the energy, only one imaging is required. Further, since the X-ray image formed at the same time is used, a clear X-ray image can be generated at any time without being affected by the heartbeat. .
[0011]
The energy reference output signal may be corrected based on the sensitivity of the detector for each X-ray energy.
The detector has a bias in energy detection characteristics. Since such a deviation of the detector disturbs the screen information about the observation target, it is preferable to correct the output signal based on the detector characteristics checked in advance to more accurately represent the actual state.
[0012]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to examples.
FIG. 1 is a system diagram of an X-ray energy analysis imaging apparatus according to one embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 2 is a block diagram of signal processing, and FIG. 3 is a graph showing photon energy dependence of a mass absorption coefficient of a substance.
[0013]
As shown in FIG. 1, the X-ray energy analysis imaging apparatus of the present embodiment includes an X-ray detector 1, an image processing device 2, and a display device 3, and includes an X-ray generator 4 and an X-ray detector 1. The subject 5 is placed on the display device, the X-ray latent image acquired by the X-ray detector 1 by irradiating the X-ray is image-processed by the image processing device 2 to generate a target X-ray image, and the target X-ray image is displayed on the display device 5. .
The X-ray generator 4 can use a tube X-ray source that generates white X-rays.
The X-ray detector 1 includes an X-ray detector 11 in which X-ray detection elements having energy resolution are arranged on a surface.
[0014]
The X-ray detection unit 11 has a Schottky-type current-voltage characteristic in which, for example, cadmium telluride CdTe is formed as a pixel on a ceramic substrate in an array, and a bias voltage can be applied using platinum and indium electrodes. The cadmium telluride semiconductor detector thus configured can be used.
For example, a cadmium telluride element having a size of about 50 μm square can be formed in an array on a substrate of several tens mm in length and width. The X-ray detector 11 having pixels arranged in an array has a spatial resolution. Note that the measurement can be performed by one-dimensional scanning using a one-dimensional linear array for the X-ray detection unit 11.
[0015]
In such a detector, each of the electron-hole pairs generated by applying a bias voltage to the semiconductor pixel is attracted to the anode and cathode to form a depletion layer. Since the number of electron-hole pairs corresponding to the energy is generated and the current flows between the electrodes, the energy of the incident X-ray can be known from the magnitude of the current.
By amplifying the minute current generated by the generation of the electron-hole pair, classifying it by the current value, and counting the number of times of detection for each current value in a predetermined time, the energy spectrum of the incident X-ray can be obtained for each pixel.
[0016]
When the measurement object 5 is irradiated with white X-rays from the X-ray generator 4, the energy absorption rate differs for each part constituting the measurement object 5, so that the transmitted X-ray has a state in which the intensity is altered for each energy. In the X-ray detector 1, the transmission state of the received X-ray is formed as a latent image over the X-ray energy region in which the X-ray detection element of the X-ray detection unit 11 has sensitivity, and the energy component is specified and extracted. An X-ray image of the energy component can be obtained according to the transmitted X-ray intensity. Therefore, it is possible to separately extract the image of the bone and the image of the organ having different X-ray absorption conditions from the information obtained by one X-ray imaging. It is also possible to detect a drug bag hidden in the stomach as an image by cutting out an X-ray energy region absorbed by the drug and combining it with an image.
Cadmium telluride can be applied to a high bias voltage, has a high mass response and a high X-ray absorptivity, and has fast response and high detection efficiency, and is advantageously used for an X-ray detection detector. be able to.
[0017]
In order to process the detection signal, as shown in FIG. 2, the X-ray detector 1 further amplifies the output of the preamplifier 12 provided for each X-ray detection element and the output of the preamplifier in addition to the X-ray detector 11. An amplifier 13 that performs the conversion, an A / D converter 14 that digitizes the output of the amplifier, an output of the A / D converter 14 that is classified according to size, and a discrimination counter 15 that counts the number of detections. A two-dimensional memory 16 that accumulates the X-ray discrimination results and stores the energy spectrum of each element.
In this manner, the energy spectrum information for each pixel stored in the two-dimensional memory 16 is processed by the image processing device 2 to form an image.
[0018]
The image processing device 2 includes a waveform shaper 21, a three-dimensional memory 22, an energy selector 23, an image synthesizer 24, and an image memory 25.
The waveform shaper 21 takes in the energy spectrum information of the two-dimensional memory 16 to remove noise and crosstalk components in the signal waveform, and stores the spectrum storage area prepared for each pixel in the three-dimensional memory 22 in the image processing device 2. To be stored.
The energy selector 23 extracts spectrum information for each pixel from the three-dimensional memory 22, and cuts out the X-ray intensity at the target position for each pixel based on the energy γ determined according to the analysis purpose.
[0019]
The image synthesizer 24 generates a grayscale image by converting the intensity of the designated energy component in each pixel into a grayscale level and expressing it as the grayscale of a point corresponding to the spatial arrangement of the pixels. The grayscale image is the same as the X-ray transmission image obtained when only the X-ray of the energy component is selected and irradiated with a spectroscope or emitted light. Since this method uses only a monochromatic X-ray portion, a target image becomes obscured by being buried in background noise, such as an X-ray image when X-rays having a wide energy range are used. There is no.
The grayscale image generated in this way can be displayed on the display device 3 via the image memory 25. It should be noted that printing can be performed by a printing device as needed, or transferred to another computer for use.
[0020]
Further, in the X-ray energy analysis imaging apparatus of the present embodiment, a latent image of an X-ray transmission image once captured is processed to generate an X-ray transmission image at an arbitrary energy. The present invention can be effectively used also when selecting and sharpening an image of a target portion, or when forming an image by calculation using images at different wavelengths in angiography or the like.
As shown in FIG. 3, the X-ray absorptivity of bone and soft tissue decreases almost simply with changes in X-ray energy, whereas, for example, iodine has a so-called K absorption edge at a position of 33.17 keV. However, the mass absorption coefficient of X-rays sharply increases at the K absorption edge.
Then, iodine is injected into a blood vessel as a contrast agent, and only an X-ray of 34 keV to 35 keV, which is slightly higher than the K-absorption edge of iodine, is counted and imaged. Is strongly absorbed, so that a blood vessel can be detected as a dark shadow.
[0021]
Also, since the amount of X-ray absorption in the surrounding tissue does not change much above and below the K absorption edge, two portions of, for example, from 34 keV to 35 keV above the K absorption edge and from, for example, 32 keV to 33 keV below the K absorption edge. When the X-ray dose to each pixel is counted and the difference between the count values is calculated, the X-rays absorbed in the soft tissues and bones are canceled out, and a difference appears only in the blood vessel portion, and a clear image with a large contrast of the coronary artery is obtained. be able to. Since this image is synthesized from X-ray images having different energies acquired at the same time, the coronary artery moving intensely with the heart is detected in a stationary state.
[0022]
This apparatus can also be directly applied to cancer diagnosis using a gold complex photosensitizer.
Since the apparatus of the present embodiment obtains substantially the same X-ray transmission image as that obtained by measurement using monochromatic X-rays, the ability to detect an object is improved. Furthermore, the system can be miniaturized because no special device is used for monochromatic X-rays, and the inspection time can be shortened because only one imaging is required when inspecting with changing energy. is there.
[0023]
In the apparatus according to the present embodiment, the sensitivity characteristic of the X-ray detector depending on the X-ray energy may change. The X-ray generator also has energy characteristics.
In this apparatus, X-ray images with different sensitivities depending on energy are acquired at once as a latent image, and an X-ray image with different energy is extracted from the latent image. In order to express the result, it is preferable to correct the detection result according to the energy characteristics of the detector and the generator.
In the above description, each component is distributed to the X-ray detector 1 and the image processing device 2, but the distribution destination is not limited to the above description, and may be used as an independent component. Needless to say. Further, the respective functions may be integrated and executed by a general-purpose arithmetic processing device such as a personal computer.
[0024]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, by using the X-ray energy analysis imaging apparatus of the present invention, X-ray images of several objects having different X-ray absorption characteristics are extracted from the measurement output obtained by one imaging, and the images are clearly obtained. Can be displayed. The device of the present invention can be used for testing drugs and explosives, and can be effectively used particularly for medical tests such as coronary angiography.
