Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a sterilization indicator composition that detects optimum sterilization conditions for each sterilization method, and can identify difference in the sterilization methods according to the discoloration of a colored indicator after sterilization treatment in AC, EOG, PS, and formalin sterilization. SOLUTION: The sterilization indicator composition contains a bismuth compound, a sulphuric compound containing sulfur, dispersion dye having the following general expression (R1 indicates hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, or acylamino group; R2 indicates hydrogen, methoxy, or ethoxy group; R3 , R4 , and R5 indicate each hydrogen, nitric acid, or alkyl group.), an organic acid compound, a urethane/cellulose nitrate resin, a polyamide/cellulose nitrate resin, and an acryl/ alkyd/cellulose nitrate resin as an essential constituent, thus detecting each sterilization condition of the AC, EOG, PS, and formalin sterilization for discoloring, and identifying the difference in each sterilization method.

2. Description of the Related Art In the medical field, methods for sterilizing medical equipment and the like include autoclave sterilization (hereinafter referred to as AC sterilization) in which heating is performed with high-pressure steam for a certain period of time, ethylene oxide gas sterilization using ethylene oxide gas (hereinafter referred to as EOG sterilization), and overheating. Hydrogen peroxide low temperature plasma sterilization (hereinafter, PS sterilization) using hydrogen oxide, formalin sterilization using formalin gas, and the like have been put to practical use. As a method for confirming the completion of the sterilization treatment, for example, heat-resistant bacteria (B, stearo)

[0003] The former biochemical indicator enables accurate confirmation of sterility. However, since it is necessary to culture bacteria after sterilization, it takes too much time to judge sterility. Therefore, the latter chemical indicator, which is easy to handle and can check the quality of sterilization in real time, is often used. Many of the chemical indicators are used in a form printed on paper, plastic film, or the like. For example, an indicator composition that changes color by reacting with high-pressure steam, ethylene oxide gas, hydrogen peroxide, formalin gas, or the like is formed into an ink and printed and applied. The quality of the sterilization process is determined based on the discoloration.

The disclosed indicator composition is an indicator composition which reacts only with any one of high-pressure steam, ethylene oxide gas, hydrogen peroxide and formalin gas. The indicator composition disclosed in JP-A-4-364174 is said to discolor in response to AC sterilization and EOG sterilization, but has not yet been put to practical use.
In the actual sterilization operation, it is necessary to prepare and use a sterilization indicator corresponding to the sterilization method, which is inconvenient.
Also, when manufacturing sterilizing materials, for example, sterilizing bags, sterilizing tapes, sterilizing cards, etc., it is necessary to prepare and use the corresponding indicator compositions for each, which is inconvenient. If the indicator is used improperly, it is not possible to confirm the completion of sterilization, which imposes unnecessary work and complexity. In addition, inventory management tends to be complicated.

An appropriate content of the organic acid is 0.1% of the total amount of the composition.
It is 1 to 5 parts by weight, preferably 0.4 to 2 parts by weight.
If the amount is less than 0.1 part by weight, the discoloration after EOG sterilization, PS sterilization, and formalin sterilization is small and unclear. As described above, the sterilization indicator composition of the present invention can be used for AC sterilization, EOG sterilization, PS sterilization,
It has discoloration that matches the sterilization conditions of formalin sterilization. After the object to be sterilized and the indicator using the composition of the present invention are sterilized together, the quality of the sterilization of the object to be sterilized can be easily detected by confirming the discoloration of the indicator. It is not necessary to select an indicator according to the sterilization method as in the related art, and erroneous use is avoided. Further, since a plurality of indicators according to the sterilization method are not required, both the side that manufactures and uses the sterilized material can simplify the inventory management and reduce the manufacturing / purchase cost.
