2. Description of the Related Art As a conventional technique, when a golf ball is hit, a face member is bent and a plastic member having the same shape as the face member is applied to the back side of the face member before plastic deformation occurs. There has been known a golf ball in which the initial speed of a golf ball is increased. For example, in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. H11-114105, as shown in FIG. 12, an outer peripheral portion of a face member 100 and an outer peripheral portion of a backup member (reinforcing member) 101 are joined by welding (the welded portion is denoted by W The face unit 200 is formed in advance, and the face unit 200 is connected to the opening 1 of the body 102 with the front end open.
03 is welded by fitting into the rim 104.
Here, the face member 100 and the backup member 101
Is desirably set to a dimension shorter than the maximum warpage deformation width inherent to the face member 100 when the face member 100 warps and deforms when hitting a ball.

However, in the above-described prior art, the reinforcing member is simply provided on the back surface of the face member, and the position of the center of gravity, the head volume, and the weight of the head are not taken into consideration. Therefore, for a golfer with a fast head speed, the initial speed of the ball increases,
Since the center of gravity of the head is closer to the face, the backspin amount is reduced, resulting in an appropriate backspin and a longer flight distance. However, general golfers have varying hitting points and head speed. It was difficult to extend the flight distance because it was too slow. For general golfers, by increasing the head volume and deepening the center of gravity, the moment of inertia around the center of gravity axis of the head is increased, the sweet area is expanded, and the center of gravity is increased to increase the backspin amount. In addition to increasing the lift of the ball, making it easier to climb the ball, and increasing the initial velocity of the ball, the flight distance can be extended.

Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a golf club head capable of increasing the rebound of a ball on a face surface and extending the flight distance even for a general golfer.

The width L at the center of the reinforcing member 4 is 20 mm.
Degree. If the width L of the central portion is less than 15 mm, it becomes too thin and the reinforcing effect is reduced, and it is necessary to increase the thickness of the face member 3 in order to impart strength to the face member 3. Also, if the thickness of the face member 3 is increased, the resilience performance may not be improved. In addition, when the width L of the center portion is set to 40 mm or more, the mass of the reinforcing member 4 and the mass for welding the reinforcing member 4 are added, the center of gravity becomes closer to the face, and for a general golfer, around the center of gravity of the head. There is a risk that the moment of inertia will be small and the club will be difficult to control. On the other hand, if the thickness of the reinforcing member 4 is too thin, the reinforcing effect is reduced, and welding becomes difficult. On the other hand, if the thickness of the reinforcing member 4 is too large, the position of the center of gravity is close to the face, which is not preferable. Therefore, the reinforcing member 4 has a width of 15 to 40 mm, preferably 20 to 30 mm, a thickness of 0.8 to 2.5 mm, and preferably 1.2 to 2.0 mm.
And The thickness of the face member 3 is at least 1.0 to 2.5 mm near the face center, particularly 1.5 to 2.5 mm.
It is preferably 2.0 mm, and the face center is preferably formed to be thinnest. The face member 3 may be formed by casting, but it is preferable to use a forged material or a rolled material.

FIG. 3 shows an edge 2 around the face opening 2.
The figure shows that stoppers 5 are formed at a plurality of upper and lower positions near the inside of A. In the embodiment of FIG. 3, the stopper 5 is formed integrally with the edge 2A. Since the reinforcing member 4 is partially used without being used on the entire back surface of the face member 3, the weight is reduced accordingly, and the reduced amount can be fixed to the sole portion as the weight 6. This weight 6 may be provided on the head side portion. The weight 6 may be made of the same material or the same material as the head body 1, but may be made of a material having a large specific gravity, such as stainless steel, a copper alloy, or a tungsten alloy.
Secure them securely by welding, press fitting, caulking or other means. Further, in order to make the position of the center of gravity deep and low, it is preferable that the mass of the weight 6 is set at 10 to 30 g on the back side of the sole portion. If the weight 6 is too light, the position of the center of gravity does not change much. If the weight 6 is too heavy, the volume must be reduced due to the weight of the head main body 1. In FIG. 4, a stopper 5 for preventing falling off is formed on the back side of the face opening 2 by a separate member and provided by welding. The stopper 5 is provided at a position where the stopper 5 does not overlap the reinforcing member 4. Particularly, it is preferable to provide the stoppers 5 for preventing the falling off from the upper and lower portions at positions near the left and right ends of the reinforcing member 4 respectively.

The above-mentioned reinforcing member 4 may be a square or a rectangle. Contrary to the above, the width L at the center is larger than the width of the upper and lower ends 4A and 4B, as shown in FIG. It may be. Further, a trapezoidal shape in which a portion near the sole side is widened, or a narrower shape than the upper and lower ends 4A and 4B may be used so as to reinforce only the most deformable portion of the face member 3. Further, the reinforcing member 4 may be provided with a round shape such as a roll or a bulge instead of a flat plate. Also,
Such a shape is also preferable because a trapezoidal shape can reduce the center of gravity. By reducing the width L of the central portion as in the above-described reinforcing member 4, the weight of the reinforcing member 4 can be reduced while maintaining the fixed width, that is, the width of the upper and lower ends 4A and 4B (welding width). .

When the face member 3 is fitted into the face opening 2 of the head body 1, the back surface of the face member 3 comes into contact with the stopper 5 so that the surface of the edge 2A and the striking surface of the face member 3 are separated. It is preferable that they are located on substantially the same plane. The face member 3 is provided with a plurality of grooves called score lines, and a bead formed when the face member 3 and the head main body 1 are fixed to each other by welding is polished, and the face member 3 and the edge 2A are formed. Finish to eliminate the step. Therefore, if there is a step between the face member 3 and the edge 2A, the groove (score line) may be cut.

The golf club head of the present invention aims at increasing the flight distance of the driver.
The club is said to be a driver.
When a golf club of m (43 to 50 inches) is swung, the head speed is preferably increased. The angle at which the face angle is the most steep, such as a loft angle of 7 to 14 °, is preferable because the rebound of the ball increases and the initial velocity of the hit ball increases. At this time, we want the head to be as large as possible. However, if the head weight is too heavy, it will not be possible to swing. The head volume is 250-350cm because it may collide with the iron head
3 , particularly preferably 280 to 320 cm 3 , and the mass of the head is preferably in the range of 180 to 200 g. The deeper the center of gravity, the deeper it is, giving backspin to the ball,
In order to appropriately provide a lift to the ball, it is preferably 26 mm or more, particularly preferably 30 mm or more. From the volume of the head, the depth of the center of gravity is considered to be 35 mm as the limit of the shape of a normal wood type golf club, and the depth of the center of gravity is 26 to 35 m.
m, particularly preferably 30 to 35 mm. In order to form a golf club head having such a large volume and light weight, it is preferable to form the golf club head with a material having a specific gravity of 5 or less, and particularly, an aluminum alloy, a magnesium alloy, a titanium alloy or the like is suitable.

Next, production examples (examples) of the present invention will be described. First, the head body 1 was manufactured by casting using Ti-6Al-4V which is a titanium alloy. The opening 2 was provided only in the face of the head main body 1. The opening 2 is used to fit the face member 3 and to make the head body 1 from a wax mold when investment casting is performed.
The core is taken out to create a space to form a hollow inside. Two drop-prevention stoppers 5 were formed extending from the opening 2 toward the center of the face at an interval of 40 mm upward and two at a distance of 40 mm downward. The face member 3 is formed separately from the head main body 1 and is made of a rolled titanium alloy SP70.
0 was punched into a desired shape, and a roll and a bulge round were formed by press molding. Also, on the back surface, the reinforcing member 4 was formed of the same material as that of the face member 3 by using SP700, similarly punched out into a desired shape, and formed by pressing and forming fewer rounds than the roll and bulge face members 3. The reinforcing member 3 was arranged at the center of the right and left sides of the back surface of the face member 3, and only the upper and lower ends 4A and 4B were fixed by arc welding in an argon gas atmosphere. The width of each of the upper and lower ends 4A, 4B of the reinforcing member 4 is set to 30
mm, and the width L at the center was 20 mm. The face member 3 to which the reinforcing member 4 is fixed in this manner is fitted so as to be flush with the edge 2A surrounding the face opening 2 of the head main body 1, and at this time, the stopper 5
Are provided so as to come into contact with the back surfaces of the face member 3 and the reinforcing member 4. The face member 3 fitted to the head main body 1 is fixed by arc welding in an argon atmosphere, and the bead portion raised on the welded portion is flattened by polishing, and then the entire surface of the head is lightly polished,
Painted and finished. The head weight at this time is 194g
Met. Table 1 below shows the results of a comparison between the golf club head of the present invention manufactured as described above and a golf club head having the same head volume and weight.

The golf club head described above was assembled into a golf club having a club length of 45 inches, and a test hit evaluation was performed. The results are shown in Tables 2 and 3. In addition, the numerical value of the "reinforcement member" in the table is the thickness, and the reinforcement member of Comparative Example 1 also used SP700.

From the results shown in Table 2, the center of gravity of the embodiment of the present invention can be set deeper and lower than that of the golf club head in which the reinforcing member is welded to almost the entire back surface of the face member, that is, Comparative Example 1. As a result, the backspin amount of the ball could be increased. In addition, the initial velocity of the ball could be increased in the embodiment of the present invention, although there was no difference between the head of the general titanium alloy and the appearance and the function shown in Table 1. As a result, the flight distance could be increased as compared with the golf clubs of Comparative Examples 1 and 2. In addition, according to the results shown in Table 3, the effect was particularly high in the case of an off-center hit, and a great difference was obtained in the flight distance. In other words, the off-center hit showed a small decrease in flight distance relative to the flight distance when hit with the face center. Similarly, when the ball was hit on the heel side at a position 15 mm from the face center, a result close to Table 3 could be obtained.

As described above, according to the present invention, the width of the upper and lower ends of the reinforcing member having a thickness of 0.8 to 2.5 mm is set to 15 to 40 mm, and only these upper and lower ends are provided on the back surface of the face member. Since the face member and the head body are fixed by welding, the bead by welding can be reduced by limiting the width of the reinforcing member, and the height of the center of gravity can be suppressed to 25 mm or less, Even a weak golfer can easily lift the ball. Further, in the present invention, since the reinforcing member is not used on the entire face, a head weight is allowed, and by fixing the weight to the sole portion and the head side portion, the center of gravity can be made deeper and lower. As described above, according to the present invention, the head volume can be increased, and the center of gravity can be deepened, the moment of inertia around the center axis of the head can be increased, the sweet area can be expanded, and the center of gravity can be increased. By increasing the depth and increasing the backspin amount, the lift of the ball can be increased, the ball can be easily lifted, and the flying distance can be improved in combination with the effect of increasing the initial velocity of the ball. In addition, the rebound of the ball on the face surface is increased, and a general golfer can also increase the flight distance. Further, even when the golf club head is hit off center off the face center, the flight distance is less reduced as compared with a normal golf club head.
