About the method. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION In the past, machine tools have been tested with equipment that is selectively installed on the machine tool in a rarely performed manual test method. FIG. 1 shows a known insertion and removal magnet ball bar test gage of the type described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,435,905 to Brian for determining the accuracy of machine tools. Two gage balls (10, 12) are held by telescopic fittings and separated from each other, which allow a degree of freedom of axial movement relative to the gage balls, but a degree of freedom of lateral movement. Do not forgive. The telescoping fixture has parallel lead bending units (14) and rigid members (16, 18, 20, 22, 24). One gauge ball (10) is secured by a magnet socket knuckle assembly (34) which secures the center with respect to the machine tool to be tested. The other gauge ball (12) is secured by another magnet socket knuckle assembly (38) which is oriented such that the center of the ball (12) follows a defined trajectory. Engaged or held by the machine tool, every point of the trajectory is theoretically equidistant from the center of the fixed gauge ball (10). As the moving ball (12) follows its trajectory, the change in radial distance between the centers of the two balls (10, 12) caused by the inaccuracy of the movement of the machine tool causes the parallel lead bending unit (14). ) Actuated by a displacement transducer, such as a linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) assembly (50, 56, 58). Measurements can be made on multiple tracks around several different ball (10) positions, thereby determining the accuracy of the machine tool. A modified nested ballbar device known as SERVCHECK (R) sold by Automated Precision, Inc., 7901-C, Cessna Ave., Geysersburg, Md. Is shown in FIGS. 2a and 2b. SERVCHECK's telescoping ballbar unit (202) is a highly accurate, low-friction machine that evaluates the performance of numerically controlled machine tools, including machining centers, milling machines, turning centers, lathes and grinders, CMMS, robots, and multi-axis servos. Use a parallel spring suspension to make the measurements. Unlike Brian's design, the ballbar has one ball attached to it. This works with a fixed sphere that is magnetically attached to the machine table and performs a function similar to that of Brian's device, but greatly simplifies the installation of the ballbar. The nested ballbar transmits signals to the interface module 204 via wire 203, which provides the ballbar output data to Winner® 2.01 SERV CHECK software running on an IBM compatible personal computer 206. . The software records deviations from the complete circular path drawn by the machine tool and provides menu driven analysis, online help, interactive setup, and graphical display. However, these types of earlier ballbar devices are designed to be used during machine tool calibration verification or maintenance procedures, and remove the machine tool from production for machine accuracy tests performed by the ballbar device. And needed to set up the machine tools. The inventor has determined that there is a need for a ballbar device that can be mounted as part of a machine and that can be automatically operated on a regular basis to verify the accuracy of the machine's servo positioning. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide an automatic test gauge for measuring the accuracy of a numerically controlled machine tool and / or for calibrating the machine tool, the gauge comprising a tool changer for the machine tool. It is installed as a special tool at the time of. It is another object of the present invention to provide an improved ballbar device for mounting as a dedicated tool during tool change on a CNC machine tool or similar machine tool or mechanism. It is yet another object of the present invention to provide an improved method for evaluating a CNC machine tool or similar machine tool or mechanism that uses an automated on-machine ballbar device. It is another object of the present invention to provide an improved ballbar device for wirelessly transmitting relative position information to a monitoring computer. These and other objects, which will become apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art upon reviewing the specification and claims, are described in a preferred embodiment, in which a ballbar socket head is used as a standard tool for a CNC machine tool or similar device. Achieved by attaching to the head. The socket head is mounted on the tool chain of the machine tool and is selectively mounted on the machine tool spindle by an automatic tool change arm under program control. The ballbar socket head is engaged with a telescoping ballbar mounted on the base socket. The ballbar and the base socket are located by the machine tool around the table of the machine tool or automatically on the table for testing. The test operation of the ball bar is automatically performed during the production operation, at the time of the downtime or at regular time intervals, and during the installation and the removal of the machine. When the ball bar device is installed, the machine tool automatically performs a predetermined control motion pattern for a ball bar test. After the test, the ballbar socket head is, if appropriate, returned to the tool chain and the ballbar of the machine tool, and the base unit and the ballbar are moved. The results of the test are received by a computer, displayed for the operator, stored for statistical analysis, or dynamically used to recalibrate the machine's motion controls. In another preferred embodiment, the ballbar sensor is connected to a computer for wireless use and the wires do not interfere with the automatic positioning and storage of the ballbar socket. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is an explanatory diagram of a conventional nested magnetic ball bar test gauge. FIG. 2a is an illustration of an improved nested ballbar device previously developed by the present inventor, and FIG. 2b is an illustration of the ballbar device and the associated connected to analyze the output of the ballbar. It is an explanatory view with a computer. FIG. 3 is a side view of the on-machine ball bar device according to the present invention. FIG. 4 is an assembly view of a fixed ball mount according to the present invention. FIG. 5 is a side view of a fixed ball mount with a ball bar support member according to the present invention. FIG. 6 is a flowchart illustrating the steps of an automated CNC machine ball bar measurement procedure according to the present invention. FIG. 7 is a block diagram of a control device and a feedback loop used in the present invention. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS The present invention, computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, or new ballbar device for similar machine tools and this, and a method for using this device. Referring first to FIG. 3, an on-machine ballbar apparatus of the present invention includes a standard ballbar socket head 302 mounted on a standard tool holder 304 of a CNC machining center 306 and a low profile material mounted on a machine table 310. , An automatic centering base mount 308, a fixed ball 312 of the base mount 308, and a ball bar sensor 314. The ball bar sensor 314 includes a ball at one end and a socket at the other end. The socket head 302 is a standard ballbar mounting socket marketed by Automated Precision, Inc. of Geysersburg, MD and is mounted on a standard tool holder 304 having a shape suitable for the machining center 306. Next, the socket head 302 is treated as a standard tool of the machining center 306. The socket head 302 is attached to the tool chain 316 and then selectively attached to the machine spindle 318 by the tool change arm 320 under program control. The base mount 308 is a low profile, self-centering (6-point semi-moving) base mount that is mounted on a machine table or pallet. The device may be mounted below the working zone so as not to interfere with the partial load. The base mount 308 also includes locating pins and quick release clamps that allow an operator to manually position the base mount 308 when ballbar work is desired. The fixed sphere 312 is a one inch (2.54 cm) fixed sphere with an aligned semi-moving magnetic coupling for mounting to the base mount 308. The magnetic semi-moving design allows for highly repeatable positioning of the fixed sphere 312 on the base mount 308, either manually or automatically. If desired, fixed spheres can be used with on-machine contact probes to check for machine repeatability and thermal drift. The ballbar sensor 314 may be a conventional SERVCHECK ™ brand ballbar device sold by Automated Precision, Inc., 7901-C, Cessna Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD, which is described herein. The automatic placement procedure and the wireless operation may be facilitated by making improvements. In the first embodiment, the ballbar sensor 314 is connected to the ballbar interface module 204 by wires 322 and from the interface box 204 to the computer 206 for processing ballbar output data (both shown in FIG. 2b). Connected). Computer 206 preferably executes Winner version 2.01 analysis software, which is also commercially available from Automated Precision, Inc., 7901-C, Cessna Avenue, Geysersburg, MD. FIG. 4 illustrates another embodiment of a stationary sphere, generally shown as a unit 400, and an associated mounting. In this embodiment, fixed ball 402 and auxiliary fixed ball 404 are attached to rod 406 and attached to base 408 by machine screws threaded into holes 409. The base 408 has mounting holes 410 which receive quick release screws so that the operator can mount the unit 400 in place on the machine table. Referring now to FIG. 5, in another preferred embodiment, a fixed ball 312 is attached to a base 502 by a rod 512, which has a locating pin 504 and a magnet 506. The positioning pin 504 fits into the hole 508 at a predetermined position on the machine table 310, and the magnet 506 keeps the base 502 in contact with the machine table 310 during the test operation. In this manner, the fixed ball 312 and its base 502 can be automatically placed on the table by the tool change arm 320 of the machine 306. In this embodiment, a ballbar sensor support 510 is connected to a rod 512 to facilitate automatic placement of the ballbar sensor 314. The ballbar sensor support 510 has an arm 514, a pad 516, and an optional spring member 518. Arm 514 is connected to rod 512 and pad 516 is attached to the end of arm 514. The pad 516 is shaped to engage and support the ballbar sensor 314 and preferably has a cushioning surface, such as foam rubber, to prevent damage to the ballbar sensor 314 during placement on the pad 516. Good to have. Pads 516 and arms 514 are arranged such that ballbar sensor 314 is supported slightly below horizontal axis 518. As a result, when the ball bar sensor 314 is in the horizontal working position, the ball bar sensor 314 does not contact the ball bar sensor support 510 during rotation about the fixed ball 312. The ballbar sensor 314 is preferably supported by the pad 516 below horizontal and at an angle θ of about 10 ° to 40 °. Optionally, a spring member 518 may be provided to further compensate for possible vertical axis errors of automatic placement of the ballbar sensor 314 by the tool changer. In this embodiment, the arm 514 is rotatably mounted on the rod 512, and the relatively stiff spring member 518 absorbs shock when receiving the ballbar sensor 314, and allows slight rotation of the arm 514. Allow. As another example, arm 514 may be rigidly attached to rod 512 and made flexible (like a spring) to provide the same function. On-machine ballbars provide CNC machine tool operators with robust and precise intelligence tools to determine the precise performance of the machine on a routine basis. The operation is quick and transparent to the operator and the operator requires only minimal intervention. A modified ballbar can also be provided to check for thermal and compliance errors. Optionally, the ballbar may be combined with a spindle (such as a 5-axis spindle) to monitor thermal growth and repeatability. Real-time error compensation techniques can be applied to CNC machine tool control operations based on the results of periodic ballbar tests during manufacturing operations. In this way, the control function of the CNC machine tool can be changed using the result of the ball bar test. For example, if the ballbar test detects a scale mismatch in the movement of the CNC machine tool in the x direction, the motion command signal to the servomotor in the x direction is changed to compensate for the detected scale mismatch and thus the CNC. A feedback system for overcoming the problem of motion inaccuracies of a machine tool can be effectively provided. Although the ballbar can be connected by wire to an interface, i.e., a computer for storing and analyzing the output information from the ballbar, in a preferred embodiment, as shown in FIG. Wireless communication may be provided between the ballbar and the computer interface to avoid interference with operation and automatic placement of the ballbar. Wireless communication can occur in any desired band, such as infrared, visible, microwave, or radio frequency bands. Low power radio frequency transmission has the advantage that the movement and rotation of the CNC machine tool does not interfere with these transmissions which can occur with light or infrared without the use of multiple optical transmitters or receivers. Due to environmental considerations, the interface box may be required to be positioned out of line with the ballbar. In this embodiment, a conventional compact, low power radio frequency transmitter using any desired available transmission frequency, such as a frequency available for remote control, garage door or cordless telephone transmission, is a ballbar sensor. Of the housing. The housing of the ballbar sensor also has a battery power supply. Infrared transmission may be preferred where it is desirable for the interface box to be placed in line of sight to the ballbar sensor. In this case, a plurality of infrared emitters 520 are located outside the ballbar sensor, such that the outputs of at least one emitter are always received by the infrared emitter detector at the interface box. Is positioned at For example, the ballbar sensor 314 may be located at the top, bottom, and / or sides of the housing for transmission in multiple directions. Referring now to FIG. 6, the ballbar setup and test program is preferably integrated into the machine's automatic cycle. A preferred on-machine ballbar test program is shown in flowchart form. In a first step, indicated by block 602, a ball bar socket with an associated tool holder, fixed ball and ball bar sensor is loaded into the machine tool as a tool. In the case of a fixed ball and ball bar sensor, a pick-up tool for picking up and placing these items may be provided, and the fixed ball and ball bar sensor may be provided by a CNC machine tool using a pick-up tool. If it is better to pick them up and place them for operation, they should be placed near the machine table. The pick-up tool may have a magnetic, clamping or other mechanism for engaging the item to be moved. At block 603, it is determined whether it is an appropriate time to perform an on-machine ballbar test. For example, such tests may be performed during loading and unloading of machines, between manufacturing steps, during downtime, or periodically at predetermined intervals. When a test is to be performed, control is transferred to block 604. At the beginning of each ballbar test, at block 604, a fixed ball is placed at a predetermined location on the table surface in a predetermined orientation, as described above, either directly or via a pick-up tool in a machine tool chain. . At block 606, the ballbar sensor is already placed on the machine table and placed on a fixed ball on a support device such as the ballbar sensor support 510 (shown in FIG. 5). Preferably, wireless communication is used, but alternatively, wires can be provided to prevent tangling during automatic installation, or less preferably, manually by the operator. You can also. Next, at block 608, the tool holder associated with the ballbar socket is loaded onto the machine tool spindle. At block 610, the ballbar numerical control setup program is executed and the socket is engaged with the ball end of the ballbar sensor and raised to a test ready position (horizontal or vertical). At block 612, a standard ballbar numerical control test program is executed and ballbar data is collected. The data is automatically analyzed and preferably downloaded to a statistical process control system for the machine tool or factory. At block 614, the ballbar tools (fixed ball, ballbar sensor and socket) are removed from the machine tool working area and / or returned to the machine tool chain, as appropriate. The tools are returned in the reverse order of their installation. Finally, at block 616, the results of the ballbar analysis can be used to modify machine tool control parameters to compensate for irregular movement. Although less preferred, a partially automatic, partially manual method can be implemented as follows. (I) Load the socket (along with the tool holder) into the machine spindle. (Ii) Manually load the fixed ball into the base mount. (Iii) Execute the ballbar setup numerical control program and move the socket to the preparation position. (Iv) Manually attach the ballbar lead between the socket and the fixed ball. (V) Manually connect the ballbar cable to the interface box. (Vi) Execute the standard ballbar test numerical control program. (Vii) Automatically analyze the ballbar data and download the results of the SPC system. (Viii) Remove the ballbar system from the machine tool and unload. FIG. 7 shows a preferred embodiment of the present invention, in which a ballbar interface module (SIM) 204, ballbar analysis software 702, and a parameter adjustment module 705 are installed in the personal computer 206. In this embodiment, module 204, ballbar analysis software 702, and module 705 may be coupled to the machine's machine control system, and include a parameter adjustment module 705 for dynamic online calibration of the machine tool. It can also be organically integrated into the controller of the machine tool via the interface. In particular, the parameter adjustment module 705 provides an interface to the machining center 306 to enable the transfer of calibration information for the machine tool based on positioning the machine tool as measured by a ballbar sensor. This calibration information is then used by the machining center 306. The parameter adjustment module 705 may be by software designed to transfer calibration parameters to a particular machining center 306 according to the external control capabilities of the machining center. Preferably, an industry standard interface configuration has been developed by various manufacturers for machine tool control and monitoring, so the parameter adjustment module 705 provides an input to the Open Architecture Control (OAC). It is configured as follows. The ballbar analysis software preferably executes the data from each ballbar test in a computer 206 that monitors trends in accuracy, variability and accuracy of the machine tool being tested using conventional industry standard process control techniques. Data is provided to a statistical process control program, such as ballbar analysis software 702, which has been implemented. As shown in FIG. 7, the statistical process control software is also connected to receive data from the ballbar system and runs within a centrally located shop floor computer 703 for process monitoring of multiple machine tools. You can also. If desired, the ballbar analysis software may also reside in a remotely located computer functioning as one or more CNC machines. Those skilled in the art will recognize that the concepts presented herein are applicable to other types of metrology and calibration tools that can be usefully operated in machine tool automation mode.
