Description
FRESA PER L’ABRASIONE DI PIASTRELLE E SIMILI MILL FOR ABRASION OF TILES AND SIMILAR
The present invention relates to a cutter for abrasion of tiles and the like.
In particular, the cutter in question is a rotary cutter used for processing the edges of ceramic tiles, and especially for grinding such edges.
This cutter is especially of the circular type with perimeter abrasive elements.
Therefore the present invention belongs to the field of milling tools.
Milling cutters are currently known comprising a base plate fixed to a movement shaft, able to rotate the plate according to a rotation axis coinciding with the shaft axis.
This plate is substantially discoidal and has the shaft fixed centrally to one of its first faces, the second face being equipped with abrasive elements. These abrasive elements of traditional cutters consist of a plurality of abrasive elements projecting from the second face.
In particular, these abrasive elements are elongated in a direction parallel to the rotation axis of the cutter and have a base end fixed to the plate and an operative end capable of interfering with the products to be processed.
In greater detail, these traditional cutters have the abrasive elements welded to the plate or have the abrasive elements provided with a terminal able to fit into seats, shaped like these terminals, obtained on the plate.
A drawback of these traditional cutters is that they tend to chip the edges of the tiles.
A further drawback of traditional cutters consists in the fact that they are structurally complicated and therefore are complex to manufacture.
The manufacturing process of these traditional cutters requires a phase of welding the abrasive elements on the plate or requires a preliminary phase of mechanical processing, suitable for obtaining the aforementioned terminals on the abrasive elements and the aforementioned seats on the plate, and a subsequent assembly phase of the abrasive elements with plates. The technical problem underlying the present invention consists in reducing the risk of chipping the products during their milling compared to the risk deriving from the use of traditional cutters.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a cutter for abrasion of tiles and the like which solves the aforementioned technical problem.
Within the scope of this aim, an object of the invention is to propose a cutter for abrasion of tiles and the like which, during use, exerts on the product with which it interferes, stresses having an oscillating trend in an interval of stresses having a smaller amplitude than the stresses exerted by traditional cutters.
The abrasive elements 12 preferably comprise inclusions, advantageously constituted by diamond granules, incorporated in said first metal alloy and having a hardness different from, and preferably greater than, that of the first metal alloy.
Preferably, the matrix 13 also comprises inclusions, advantageously constituted by diamond granules, incorporated in the second metal alloy and having a different hardness than, and preferably greater than, that of the second metal alloy.
Advantageously, the first metal alloy has higher hardness than the second metal alloy.
In general, preferably the matrix 13 and the abrasive elements 12 have a different resistance to abrasion, where this different resistance to abrasion consists of a different quantity of material abraded by the matrix 13 and by the abrasive elements 12 following the subjecting of the matrix 13 and from the abrasive elements 12 to the same abrasive action in the same conditions.
Preferably, the abrasive elements 12 are connected to the support body 11 exclusively by means of the matrix 13 which is fixed to the support body 11 and to the abrasive elements 12.
In particular, the metal coating 15 is advantageously made of a metal, or a metal alloy, which is adapted to cling to the first metal alloy of the abrasive elements 12 and to the second metal alloy of the matrix 13.
Preferably, said first and second metal alloys, and the metal coating 15, comprise copper.
During the operation of the cutter 10, this is made to rotate around the rotation axis A and is placed in contact with the products to be milled.
An upper face 20 of the matrix 13 and the front portion of the abrasive elements 12 act on the latter.
Following the interference with the products being processed, the matrix 13 and the abrasive elements 12 alternate in contact with the products being processed, so as to exert on the latter a stress oscillating between two values, a first of which is correlated to the abrasion resistance of the matrix 13 and the second of which is correlated to the abrasion resistance of the abrasive elements 12. When a cutter 10 is in action on a product this is subjected to an abrasion stress that it does not show the trend of successive impulses which is typical of traditional cutters.
In fact, in the latter, in the time interval between the action of one tooth and the next, a part of the product being processed is free from contact with the traditional cutter. Instead, the action of the cutter 10 on a part of the product being processed is continuous and variable in an oscillating way as mentioned above, so that this part being processed is not subject to those impulses that the abrasive elements of traditional cutters exert and which cause a risk of chipping.
The cutter 10, according to the invention, has the matrix 13 and the abrasive elements 12 which, during use, wear out and tend to become thinner so that the thickness of the matrix 13 and the length of the abrasive elements 12 are reduced in a manner substantially uniform.
The metal coating 15 retains the abrasive elements 12 clinging to the matrix 13 so that the abrasive elements 12 do not separate from the latter at least until a limit thickness is reached, at which point the cutter 10 is replaced with a cutter equipped with a matrix 13 and abrasive elements 12 intact, ie not worn.
Generalmente tale spessore limite à ̈ pari a circa 2mm. Generally this limit thickness is equal to about 2mm. In practice, in accordance with the preferred but not exclusive embodiment described herein, a cutter 10 according to the invention has the abrasive elements 12 which are not directly connected, for example by welding or interlocking, to the support body 11, but rather ¬ they are held on the latter by the matrix 13 to which they are firmly anchored by the metal coating 15.

In accordance with the present invention, the first and second metal alloys are preferably bronze-based or iron-based.
The cutter 10 according to the invention therefore achieves the intended aim and objects by avoiding the risk of chipping the products during their milling. Furthermore, during use, a cutter according to the invention exerts on the product, with which it interferes, continuous stresses having an oscillating pattern 10 in an interval of stresses having a smaller amplitude than the stresses exerted by traditional cutters.
A cutter according to the invention is also structurally simpler than traditional cutters, in fact 15 the holding of the abrasive elements is entrusted to the combined action of the matrix and the metal coating, allowing to avoid the traditional solutions of joining the abrasive elements to the support body.
20 The invention thus conceived is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations, all of which fall within the scope of protection of the attached claims.
Furthermore, all the details can be replaced by other technically equivalent elements.
25 In practice, the materials used, as well as the contingent shapes and dimensions, may be varied according to contingent requirements and the state of the art.
