Description
The present invention proposes an auxiliary electric propulsion system, in particular an auxiliary hybrid propulsion system for boats.
In detail, the invention relates to an auxiliary diesel-electric propulsion system designed to replace or complement the internal combustion engine (generally diesel) with which medium and large boats are usually equipped.
Auxiliary propulsion is nowadays already widely used on large commercial ships to carry out maneuvers in and out of ports, but recently it is also developing on small and medium-sized pleasure boats. In fact, the characteristics of a naval propulsion system, normally consisting of supercharged diesel engines, transmissions with speed reducers interposed between the engine and the propeller, are necessarily calculated at the point of maximum speed of the ship. For this reason, this type of propulsion, in which the characteristics of the propeller (diameter, pitch, expanded area) and the reduction ratio between engine and propeller are fixed, in the design phase, poorly adapts to speeds with reduced speeds compared to those of the project (the supercharged engine, working at low revs, has more wear, is more subject to breakage, malfunction of the turbines and requires more maintenance).
Owners who appreciate the thrill of high speeds on the sea, realize that these are obtained at the expense of comfort (noise and vibrations) and with high consumption.
At the same time, they realize that going at a low speed often worsens the vibrations from the engines and jeopardizes the reliability of the engine itself as well as increasing its specific consumption.
Therefore, propulsion systems are increasingly being developed that allow a boat to travel at a lower speed than cruising speed, without the risk of damaging the engine.
To achieve this purpose, in the current state of the art alternative propulsion systems are used consisting mainly of electric motors that are alternately connected to the same shaft line as the main diesel engine.
It is therefore possible to decide whether to use a pace with a diesel engine at 100% power (main engine) or alternatively choose an auxiliary engine for a more "quiet" pace.
This type of auxiliary propulsion is also particularly appreciated for the ride comfort it can guarantee thanks to the presence of practically imperceptible noise and vibrations compared to those of the main propulsion.
An example of auxiliary propulsion of the prior art is schematically illustrated in the attached figure 1.
Said auxiliary propulsion includes a generator, indicated as a whole with 101, which powers an auxiliary electric motor 102 connected directly to a reducer / inverter 109 to which the shaft 103 of the boat is connected. Said generating sets are generally placed in soundproof cabins 104 and mounted on elastic supports to reduce noise to a minimum and improve the comfort of navigation at low speeds.
Generating sets 101 of a known type generally comprise a diesel endothermic engine 105, with a power much lower than that of the main engine 110, connected to a generator 106, usually three-phase synchronous, capable of generating the electrical energy to power the electric motor auxiliary 102.
A characteristic of known generating sets is that of having the internal combustion engine working at a constant number of revolutions, generally 1500 rpm, so that the generator supplies an electric voltage with a fixed frequency.
For this reason, an inverter 107 must always be interposed between the electric motor 102 and the generator 106 which, in order to allow the modulation of the frequency of the output current, in order to regulate the rotation speed of the auxiliary motor 102, which would otherwise rotate at a number of revolutions. fixed.
This solution, although functional, has some disadvantages.
Mainly, the adoption of an inverter involves a significant increase in costs as they are particularly complex and delicate electronic equipment. In addition to the inverter, it is also necessary to adopt special filters 108 to eliminate disturbances and to keep the parameters of the electric current supplied by the electric generator 106 to the inverter 107 correct, with a further increase in costs.
Another disadvantage concerns the large dimensions of both the generator 101 and the inverter 107 which create problems in arranging the same in engine compartments where the available space is always very limited.
The adoption of complex and delicate electrical equipment also affects the general reliability of the auxiliary propulsion system and, in the event of failures, entails high costs for repairs.
A further disadvantage related to the adoption of electronic equipment such as the inverter concerns the decline in the overall efficiency of the transmission as these devices absorb a not insignificant part of the electricity produced for their operation. In this context, the object of the present invention is to propose an auxiliary electric propulsion system which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks of the known art.
In particular, it is an object of the present invention to provide an auxiliary electric propulsion system, in particular for boats, which allows to reduce its costs and complexity with respect to known systems.
In detail, the object of the present invention is to provide an auxiliary electric propulsion system which allows the speed of the auxiliary electric motor to be varied without requiring an inverter or similar electronic devices.
More in detail, the aim of the present invention is to provide an auxiliary electric propulsion system which allows the number of revolutions of the auxiliary electric motor to be varied, modulating the power of the generating set which feeds it.
A further purpose of the invention is to provide an auxiliary electric propulsion system that allows the use of more compact generators than those of the known art.
These specified purposes are substantially achieved by an auxiliary electric propulsion system, comprising an internal combustion engine mechanically connected to an electric generator, said internal combustion engine being controlled by means of a command to vary its own number of revolutions, characterized by the fact that said electric generator is directly electrically connected to an auxiliary electric motor which is in turn mechanically connected to a shaft line of the main transmission of the boat, the number of revolutions of said electric motor being able to be varied by means of the control of the internal combustion engine.
In practice, by varying the number of revolutions of the internal combustion engine, it is possible to vary the frequency of the voltage emitted by the electric generator which in turn causes a variation in the revolutions of the auxiliary electric motor, since it is connected directly to the generator.
The system is thus simplified and less expensive than known auxiliary propulsion.
Ulteriori caratteristiche e vantaggi della presente invenzione appariranno maggiormente chiari dalla descrizione indicativa, e pertanto non limitativa, di un esempio di realizzazione preferita ma non esclusiva di un sistema di propulsione ausiliaria, come illustrato nelle figure allegate in cui: Further characteristics and advantages of the present invention will become clearer from the indicative, and therefore non-limiting, description of an example of a preferred but not exclusive embodiment of an auxiliary propulsion system, as illustrated in the attached figures in which:
• la figura 2 è una vista schematica che illustra il sistema di propulsione elettrica ausiliaria secondo la presente invenzione; Figure 2 is a schematic view illustrating the auxiliary electric propulsion system according to the present invention;
• la figura 3 è una vista schematica che illustra il sistema di propulsione elettrica ausiliaria secondo una variante realizzativa della presente invenzione; Figure 3 is a schematic view illustrating the auxiliary electric propulsion system according to a variant embodiment of the present invention;
With reference to the attached figure 2, the auxiliary electric propulsion system comprises an internal combustion engine 10, generally of lower power than the main internal combustion engine 80.
Connected to the shaft of said endothermic engine 10 there is an electric generator 20 adapted to transform the mechanical power generated by the engine into electrical power to power an auxiliary electric motor 30 which can be mechanically connected to a reducer / inverter 70 which is in turn mounted on the line of 40 axles of the main propulsion. Preferably said endothermic engine 10 and said generator are placed in a soundproof cabin 15 and mounted on elastic supports to reduce noise and vibrations transmitted to the outside.
Characteristic of the invention is that of providing said endothermic engine 10 configured in such a way as to be able to vary its own number of revolutions.
More in detail, said internal combustion engine 10 is provided with a fuel supply system, not shown in the figure, which can be controlled by means of a power control 50 which allows to vary the power delivered by the engine and therefore its number of revolutions when a resistant torque is applied to it.
In this way, by varying the power of the internal combustion engine 10 by means of the control 50, it is possible to vary the frequency of the voltage supplied by the electric generator 20 which in turn causes the variation of the number of revolutions of the auxiliary electric motor 30.
In this way it is possible to connect the electric generator 20 to the auxiliary electric motor 30 directly without the interposition of an inverter as it happens in known auxiliary propulsions.
Preferably the electric generator 20 is a permanent magnet synchronous generator and the auxiliary electric motor 30 is an asynchronous motor.
According to another aspect of the invention, said electric generator 20 and said auxiliary motor 30 are electrically connected in such a way as to obtain a variation in the ratio between the number of revolutions of the generator and the engine.
In practice, each phase of the electric generator 20 is directly connected to the corresponding phase of the auxiliary electric motor 30. More in detail, the stator of said electric generator 20 and of said auxiliary motor 30 are connected in such a way as to obtain a reduction in the number of revolutions of the engine auxiliary 30.
This allows to use an internal combustion engine 10 with a high maximum rotation speed (up to 4000/5000 rpm) and, thanks to the reduction to the variation of the ratio between the number of revolutions of the generator and the engine, to rotate the auxiliary engine 30 with a maximum speed of about 1500 rpm, that is compatible with those of the main internal combustion engine 80.
An endothermic engine 10 with a high number of revolutions is therefore much more compact and lighter than the traditional ones used in the generators on the market (with a rotation speed of about 1500 rpm) and allows to considerably reduce the weight and the space occupied in the compartment. engines.
According to an alternative embodiment, a mechanical reducer 60 is interposed between the internal combustion engine 10 and the electric generator 20, in order to be able to use an internal combustion engine at a high number of revolutions and in any case to rotate the generator 20 at a lower number of revolutions (for example 1500 rpm).
Thanks to the present invention it is therefore possible to provide an auxiliary electric propulsion system for boats, which allows to vary the number of revolutions of the auxiliary engine, which is simpler and much less expensive than known systems.
The lack of complex and delicate electronic components such as inverters also allows for a more reliable and cheaper system to maintain.
In the case in which endothermic engines with a high number of revolutions are used, it is also possible to considerably reduce the weights and dimensions with respect to the generating sets used in auxiliary propulsions of the known art.
The present invention, as described and illustrated, is susceptible of numerous modifications and variations all included within the scope of the inventive concept; moreover, all the details can be replaced by other technically equivalent elements.
