DESCRIZIONE dell’invenzione avente per TITOLO: “ASSORBITORE UNIVERSALE DI ENERGIA D’IMPATTO PER VEICOLI FERROVIARI”, DESCRIPTION of the invention having the TITLE: "UNIVERSAL IMPACT ENERGY ABSORBER FOR RAILWAY VEHICLES",
DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
The collision resistance of rail vehicles has improved dramatically over the past 30 years. The passive safety requirements for the safety of train passengers are described in the European standard EN 15227: 2008 + A1: 2010 (Railway applications - Crashworthiness requirements for railway vehicle bodies), the primary objective of which is to reduce the consequences of collision accidents. . The standard describes the design requirements of the structure of a railway vehicle that is able to withstand certain crash conditions, based on the most common types of accidents and related risks.
There are various design strategies that lead to the definition of the individual components and their distribution in the driver's cab of the vehicle that allow the purpose of the standard to be achieved. But all provide for the positioning at both ends of the train of a pair of energy absorption devices, called absorbers, whose main function is to produce a deceleration of the vehicle with a controlled gradient in the event of a collision, in order to reduce the impact energy transferred to passengers.
The choice of an appropriate absorber is based both on the behavior of the device during the impact, in the reaction time of a few milliseconds, and on the repair costs of the vehicle after the impact. This means that the absorber is always kept in optimal conditions, with inspections and maintenance, and that repairs after impact can be carried out easily to allow the vehicle to be put back into service in a short time.
The most common form of absorber is the tubular one, with a circular or square section, which collapses under an axial load due to elastoplastic instability called “bellows” or “concertina”. This is a relatively simple approach, widely used in many transport applications, ranging from rail to aerospace. Many works are known in the literature that report the results of finite element analyzes (FEA) conducted to predict the axial collapse of steel and / or aluminum alloy pipes, with possible geometric measures to improve their ability to absorb energy.
Almost all of these studies are focused on predicting the absorbed energy, the impact force and the effects, such as those produced by the impact speed and the impacting mass, on the trend of deformations in the entire absorber structure. What has not been studied sufficiently is the behavior of the energy absorber under the action of an impacting force eccentrically acting with respect to the longitudinal axis of the absorber itself. Yet, the aforementioned European standard provides for an impact scenario between two similar vehicles with a vertical offset of 40 mm. This offset represents the maximum difference in altitude at which, according to the standard, the axes of the impact absorbers can be found when the relative trains are fitted with differently worn wheels (new or very worn) and are in two opposite load conditions (minimum 0 maximum).
Many trains are equipped with systems designed to minimize the effect of misalignment, such as cast iron blocks, guides inserted in the tubes or front boxes, or more sophisticated systems, which dissipate the impact energy by means of the leakage of a fluid. in the passage from one room to another. But all these solutions have to deal with the growing demand for mass reduction, to allow for a greater payload on the one hand and greater energy savings on the other. With this in mind, therefore, the possibility of using a device that reconciles simplicity of construction with reliability and lightness constitutes a significant step towards the optimal solution.
The purpose of the present patent for industrial invention is to provide a simple and effective solution to the problem of the controlled absorption of the impact energy, during the frontal collision of two trains, for any misalignment between the impact absorbers, or during the impact of a train against an obstacle.
L’idea di soluzione consiste nell’aver immaginato un dispositivo realizzabile, mediante semplici e modeste lavorazioni meccaniche, con tubolari commerciali e piastre piane in materiali convenzionali, e avente le seguenti caratteristiche: The idea of the solution consists in having imagined a device that can be made, through simple and modest mechanical processing, with commercial tubulars and flat plates in conventional materials, and having the following characteristics:
• può essere dimensionato per assorbire qualsiasi ammontare di energia d’impatto, • can be sized to absorb any amount of impact energy,
• ciascun elemento tubolare di cui è costituito non va in buckling laterale, perché, realizzando l’assorbitore in più stadi, si può portare il relativo rapporto di snellezza ad un valore comunque lontano da quello critico di buckling, • each tubular element of which it is made does not go into lateral buckling, because, by making the absorber in several stages, the relative slenderness ratio can be brought to a value that is however far from the critical buckling value,
• guarantees optimal absorption of impact energy for any offset value, being equipped with a guide system for the end plates, which prevents any relative rotation.
The innovative methodological principle consists in minimizing the construction and maintenance costs of the absorbers, as the proposed solution DOES NOT require: - the use of special materials and / or devices; - a particular specific maintenance; - complex sizing procedures. Furthermore, the possibility that it offers to always absorb all the project energy, allows to foresee and minimize the breakdowns that the train cabin can undergo during the impact and, consequently, to program the methods and times of repair of the same. failures. The possibility of exploiting the aforementioned patent concerning a structurally simple type of absorber that behaves optimally in any scenario of collision of a train with another train or with any obstacle, contributes not a little to streamlining and speeding up the design, construction and the repair, after the impact, of the train cabin, with obvious economic advantages for all operators in the sector and users of the transport service.
A possible configuration of the proposed system is shown in the attached tables for indicative and non-binding purposes. In them the structure is schematized as a whole (table n. 1) and in an exploded view (table n. 2). In the latter, in particular, the following are highlighted: - the cross rods (01) of the system that prevents rotation of the front plate (02) with respect to the base plate (03); - the absorber tubes (04) arranged in such a way as to provide two stages of different stiffness; - the connecting pin of the crosses (05); - and the guides of the cross bars (06) fixed to the plates and equipped with slots in which the end pins of the cross bars can be moved. The support base of the guides is made with an inclined plane parallel to the axis of the slots, to facilitate the opening of the crosses in the initial phase of impact. Furthermore, holes are made on the pipes in the areas where the phenomenon of bellows instability is to be triggered, to control its evolution, as the quantity of absorbable energy and the relative regularity of absorption during the process are linked to the latter. impact.
The implementation proposed for the solution idea is the one that currently appears to be the most suitable. However, formal and structural changes may be made to it within the scope of the same inventive concept that remains defined by the following claims.
