DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
"MATERIALE TESSILE PROTETTIVO CONTRO L'AZIONE DI MATERIALI FUSI" "PROTECTIVE TEXTILE MATERIAL AGAINST THE ACTION OF MOLTEN MATERIALS"
The present invention relates to a protective textile material against the action of melted materials.
The present invention arises from the need to protect operators in various industrial sectors, for example in carpentry, shipbuilding, in the metallurgical sector, in particular those who work on blast furnaces or with equipment for metal welding, from sparks and splashes of materials. castings, especially of molten metals or asphalt or bitumen, so as to prevent any injuries resulting from accidental contact with these materials.
Traditionally for this purpose garments are made, such as for example aprons, gloves, jackets and the like, comprising layers of leather of considerable thickness, which are heavy, difficult to fit and poor comfort.
More recently, protective garments have been proposed made with real fabrics, which are more comfortable, light but often do not protect adequately.
The materials used for the production of similar protective garments are generally made up of aramid fibers, specifically para-aramid and meta-aramid, often in combination with other fibers such as wool or viscose treated with flame retardant agents (the so-called FR yarns, i.e. "flame retardant"). In particular, the latter act as sacrificial fibers, absorbing the heat that the molten material releases during its cooling, in such a way as to allow the aramidic fibers to carry out the actual protective action.
The Applicant has posed the problem of combining in a single textile material a high resistance to flame and to the action of melted materials with a sufficient softness, such as to allow the creation of protective clothing that is also light and comfortable, so ¬ to significantly reduce the risk of fatigue and heat stress, due to heavy work carried out in environments with high temperatures. In particular, the Applicant has posed the problem of achieving this objective without necessarily resorting to the use of fibers which per se have very high flame resistance, which are expensive and not easily available on the market.
In trying to solve this problem, the Applicant has realized that commonly used fabrics have poor and sometimes completely insufficient protection against splashes of metals or high-melting alloys, such as iron, which has a melting temperature of 1536 ° C, or steel which, depending on the percentage of carbon present, melts between 1150 ° C and 1536 ° C.
In particular, the Applicant has found that the articles of clothing of the known art do not ensure adequate protection especially against molten aluminum. Aluminum has a melting temperature of 660 ° C and a high thermal capacity, that is, it is able to release a lot of heat by varying its temperature slightly. During the first moments of the cooling process, in fact, the aluminum undergoes the phenomenon of passivation, that is it becomes covered with an oxide patina that drastically slows down the thermal exchanges with the surrounding environment and therefore the cooling itself.
The combined action of the melting temperature, even if not particularly high, and above all of the thermal capacity, which prolongs the cooling time, means that the aluminum nullifies the action of the sacrificial fibers: the aramid fibers are therefore degraded and the protective action of the fabric is therefore lacking.
In this context, the main technical task of the present invention is to have a protective textile material which overcomes the drawbacks of the known art mentioned above.
In particular, the aim of the present invention is to provide a protective textile material capable of resisting contact with molten materials at high temperatures, and in particular steel or aluminum, so as to effectively protect the operator.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a textile material which allows to make light protective garments which are easy to wear and which are comfortable for the user.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a protective textile material capable of resisting contact with molten materials at high temperature which is washable and which maintains its peculiar characteristics even after repeated washing, in particular washing in water at 30 °. C.
Il materiale tessile protettivo così ottenuto risulta inoltre particolarmente resistente a ripetuti lavaggi, in particolare a lavaggi in acqua a 30°C. The Applicant has found that these and other objects of the invention can be achieved by means of a protective textile material comprising at least one textile layer comprising fibers having fireproof properties, to which at least one protective layer comprising at least one resin is associated, for example by spreading. binder, at least one mineral filler, at least one fluorinated polymer and at least one flame retardant agent. This protective layer has a high resistance to flame and high temperatures and also allows to significantly reduce the adhesion on the protective material of splashes of molten materials, in particular of molten metals, so as to reduce the residence time on the material itself and thus improving the protective effect on the user. The protective textile material thus obtained is also particularly resistant to repeated washing, in particular to washing in water at 30 ° C.
According to a first aspect, the present invention therefore relates to a protective textile material comprising at least one textile layer comprising fibers having flame retardant properties, wherein said at least one textile layer is associated with at least one protective layer comprising: (a) at least one binder resin; (b) at least one mineral filler; (c) at least one fluorinated polymer; (d) at least one flame retardant agent.
In a second aspect, the present invention relates to the use of a protective textile material as defined above for the production of an article, in particular of a garment, protective against the action of melted materials. Examples of garments that can be made according to the present invention are: aprons, gloves, jackets, footwear (in particular shoe uppers).
As regards the fibers having flame retardant properties, these are generally fibers of natural, artificial or synthetic origin preferably having a limiting oxygen index (LOI) of not less than 25, more preferably between 28 and 40. The LOI can be determined according to ASTM D-2863.
The above fibers can be selected, for example, from wool, cotton, viscose rayon, polyester, modacrylic, basalt, aramid fibers (in particular para-aramidic), pre-oxidized (in particular pre-oxidized polyacrylonitrile fibers), or combinations thereof.
These fibers can be intrinsically fireproof or they can be given fireproof properties through appropriate treatments. For this purpose the fibers can preferably be treated with at least one flame retardant agent. This treatment can be carried out in the spinning phase or in the fiber finishing phase, according to processes well known in the art. For this treatment, flame retardant agents selected from the products indicated below as possible flame retardant agents of the protective layer according to the present invention can be used.
Said at least one textile layer can consist of at least one layer of actual fabric obtained by weaving with a warp and weft structure, or of at least one layer of non-woven fabric, or also of a combination of at least one layer of fabric with at least a layer of non-woven fabric. Alternatively, the textile layer can comprise at least one layer having a knitted structure, in particular with a locked knit.
In the case of a fabric layer, this can be made with various types of constructions, for example it can be an orthogonal fabric, with weft and warp threads arranged perpendicularly to each other. The weft and warp threads can be made with the same or different fibers.
In the case of a non-woven fabric layer, this can be obtained according to known techniques, for example by means of a needling process.
Advantageously, the protective textile material can comprise a single textile layer, or it can comprise a plurality of textile layers, in a number ranging from 2 to 6.
Preferably each textile layer is associated with at least one protective layer according to the present invention. Preferably, each protective layer is applied on at least one face of the textile layer in an amount generally comprised between 15 and 50 g / m <2>, preferably between 20 and 40 g / m <2>. Advantageously, a protective layer is present on the external face of at least one of the external textile layers, and is therefore intended to be directly exposed to the external environment during use.
In order to improve the breathability of the protective textile material according to the present invention, a plurality of through micro-holes can be made in it, that is, holes of reduced dimensions which pass through the material itself from one side to the other. In this way the comfort of the final product is significantly improved, as the micro-holes allow the passage of air, thus avoiding the stagnation of heat and / or humidity in the space between the user's body and the product. This feature is particularly useful if the user is working in overheated environments, for example near blast furnaces, and / or makes significant physical efforts, such as to cause intense sweating. The density of micro-holes necessary to obtain the desired effect can vary within wide limits according to the specific conditions of use of the product. In general, satisfactory breathability can be obtained with a number of micro-holes ranging from 10 to 50 micro-holes / cm <2>, preferably from 20 to 35 micro-holes / cm <2>. The microperforation of the protective textile material according to the present invention can be obtained by perforating the finished material with a plurality of needles having a diameter generally comprised between 0.5 and 5 mm, preferably between 1 and 3 mm. Preferably, the distribution of the micro-holes on the surface of the material is carried out according to a predetermined pattern so as to obtain a substantially constant density of holes over the entire surface.
It should be noted that the possible presence of these micro-holes does not in any way compromise the protective capacities of the textile material according to the present invention, since the dimensions of the micro-holes are such as to prevent the penetration of molten materials with high viscosity and / or surface tension, such as metals, asphalts and the like.

Preferably, said fluorinated polymer is a polyluoroacrylate. Polyfluoroacrylates suitable for the purpose can be obtained, for example, by polymerization of at least one monomer having the formula:
CH2=CRi-COO-R2-RfCH2 = CRi-COO-R2-Rf
dove: Ri à ̈ H oppure CH3 ;R2à ̈ un gruppo alchilenico non fluorurato avente da 1 a 8 atomi di carbonio; Rfà ̈ un gruppo organico almeno parzialmente fluorurato, preferibilmente un gruppo periluoroalchilico avente da 4 a 24 atomi di carbonio. where: Ri is H or CH3; R2 is a non-fluorinated alkylene group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms; Rf is an at least partially fluorinated organic group, preferably a peryluoroalkyl group having from 4 to 24 carbon atoms.

The tests were carried out on six specimens of the above textile material, after washing with water as described in point 7.2 of the EN 470-1: 1995 / Al standard. The specimens were then conditioned for 24 hours at 20 ± 2 ° C with relative humidity equal to 65 ± 5%. The test method is described in detail in the EN 532 standard. The tests were performed at a temperature between 10 ° C and 30 ° C and relative humidity between 15% and 80% and an air displacement greater than 0, 2 m / s.
Tutti e sei i campioni hanno superato la prova in quanto su ciascun campione: Each specimen was mounted on a specimen holder (a frame size 190 x 150 ± 1 cm) by means of pins, and kept at a distance of 20 mm from the specimen holder by means of suitable spacers. A burner flame (horizontal flame length 25 ± 2 mm) was applied to the specimen thus assembled and maintained in a vertical position perpendicularly to the specimen at a distance of 17 1 mm from the surface. The flame was applied for 10 sec. All six samples passed the test because on each sample:
- non si sono osservate fiamme sulla superficie; - non si sono formati buchi; - no flames were observed on the surface; - no holes were formed;
- il valore medio del tempo di post-infiammazione à ̈ stato inferiore a 2 sec; - the mean value of the post-inflammation time was less than 2 sec;
- the average value of the residual glow time was less than 2 sec.
(2) Impatto di piccole gocce di metallo fuso. (2) Impact of small drops of molten metal.
The test method defines the behavior of the material when hit by small splashes of molten metal, in particular by drops of molten steel. The way to carry out the tests is described in detail in the EN 348 standard.
In summary, the minimum number of drops necessary to cause a temperature increase of 40 ° C in a temperature sensor (resistive type) placed behind the specimen placed in vertical position is determined. The test is passed if this number is at least 15 drops.
The specimens (size 120mm x 20mm) were washed and conditioned as described above. The drops are produced by casting a steel bar conforming to ISO 636 type gl, with a linear density of 0.5 ± 0.2 g / cm. By means of a welding torch, the steel bar is melted with the formation of drops of molten steel which are directed towards the specimen by means of a guide.
From the tests carried out it was found that 40 drops of molten steel resulted in a temperature variation of 20.1 ° C in the sensor (average value over 10 tests), therefore well below the maximum value of 40 ° C required by the standard.
(3) Trasmissione del calore di tipo convettivo. (3) Convective heat transmission.
Il livello di prestazione si rileva attraverso la seguente Tabella 1: The specimen (dimensions 140 x 140 mm) is first washed and conditioned as described above. The specimen, placed in a horizontal position, is subjected to an incident heat flow of 80 kW / m <2> emitted by a flame of a propane gas burner placed under the specimen itself. The average time in seconds is measured to obtain a temperature increase of a copper disk, placed above the specimen at an initial temperature of 25 ° ± 5 ° C, equal to 24 ° 0.2 ° C. The level of performance can be found in the following Table 1:

The specimen (dimensions 230 x 80 mm) is first washed and conditioned as described above. The specimen, placed in a horizontal position, is subjected to a radiation source consisting of six silicon carbide bars heated by electric current (heat flux density equal to 20 kW / m <2>). The specimen is placed in contact with the curved face of a calorimeter by applying a force of 2 N. The time T12 is determined to obtain a temperature increase of 12 ° ± 0.1 ° C in the calorimeter and the time T24 to obtain an increase of temperature of 24 ° ± 0.1 ° C in the calorimeter. The difference between these two times (T2) provides the performance level according to the following Table 2:

(5) Resistenza a spruzzi di metalli fusi. (5) Resistance to molten metal splashes.
The test allows to determine the resistance of the material to splashes of molten metals, in particular of aluminum or steel. The details of the test are reported in the EN 373 standard.
According to this method, the materials are tested by pouring determined quantities of molten metal on a sample of the material itself (dimensions: 240 ± 2 mm x 80 ± 2 mm) installed on a frame with a predetermined inclination with respect to the horizontal plane. Deterioration is assessed by placing a PVC film (normed film) directly behind the specimen and observing its deterioration after casting the metal. The minimum amount of metal that causes deterioration of the PVC film determines the performance level, as shown in the following Tables 3 and 4:
