A reference gear change (TIPANRGAREF) for a driver's shift commands and a level pointer in an automatic status device for determining a reference gear change are detected. A desired gear change (TIPANRGAREQ) is stored in a memory location. Independent claims are also included for a method for controlling a motor vehicle's gearbox and for a computer program product for running all the steps in gearshift control system.
