Description
D E S C R I Z I O N E DESCRIPTION
dell'invenzione industriale dal titolo: of the industrial invention entitled:
"Metodo e macchina di confezionamento di articoli assorbenti.” "Method and machine for packaging absorbent articles."
The present invention relates to a method and a machine for packaging absorbent articles.
In particular, by absorbent articles we mean diapers, both for children and for adults, without thereby losing generality. The present invention is well suited, specifically, to nappies of the panty type.
Generally, absorbent articles are packed in groups, according to a set number, within a single package.
In order to reduce the costs related to the logistics of such packaging, in particular related to their and storage, in recent years the need to reduce their dimensions has been increasingly felt.
To accomplish this purpose, it is known to fold each absorbent article, compress each folded absorbent article and package it individually within a respective wrapping, so as to preserve the previous compression action.
The compression action allows for a reduction in the volume of the folded absorbent article of between 10% and 60% which is reflected in a significant reduction in the volume of the packaging within which groups of absorbent articles are packaged.
In view of the above advantage, the individual packaging of each absorbent article, however, entails a further cost item linked to the quantity of packaging material used.
The object of the present invention is to provide a method and a machine for packaging absorbent articles, in particular in a respective single envelope, which allows the use of smaller quantities of packaging material with respect to known machines, so as to further reduce the associated costs. to the packaging material of each absorbent article.

Alternatively, the compression means 21 compress the folded absorbent article 2 by suction.
The compression means 21 comprise two jaw elements 22 between which the absorbent article 2 to be compressed is interposed. At least one of the two jaw elements 22 moves towards the other jaw element 22, reducing the thickness of the absorbent article 2 interposed between them.
The action of the compression means 21 results in a decrease in the thickness of the folded absorbent article 2 and an axial expansion of the same.
Following the action of the compression means 21, the reduction in the thickness of the absorbent article 2 is between 10% and 60%, preferably 30% in order not to compromise the integrity of the absorbent article 2 itself.
The machine 1 comprises means 16 for conveying the absorbent articles 2 from the feeding station 7 to the compression station 17.
Preferably, the conveyor means 16 are in the form of pairs of belt conveyors.
A first pair of belt conveyors 18 transports the absorbent articles 2 from the feeding station 7 towards the first folding element 13.
A second pair of belt conveyors 19 transports the absorbent articles 2 from the first folding element 13 towards the second folding element 14.
A third pair of belt conveyors 20 transports the absorbent articles 2 from the second folding element 14 to the compression station 17.
It should be noted that each pair of belt conveyors 18, 19 and 20 has their respective conveyor belts 18a, 19a and 20a arranged at a distance at least equal to, or less than, the thickness of the folded absorbent article 2.
The thickness of the absorbent article 2 increases as the number of fold lines 8, 11 and 12 increases.
Consequently, the distance of the conveyor belts 20a of the third pair of belt conveyors 20 is greater than the distance of the belts 19a of the second pair of belt conveyors 19. The distance of the conveyor belts 19a of the second pair of belt conveyors 19 is greater than at the distance of the belts 18a of the first pair of belt conveyors 18.
Downstream of the compression means 21, the machine 1 comprises a packaging unit 23 for each folded and compressed absorbent article 2.
The packaging group 23 comprises a coupling station 24 of at least part of each absorbent article 2 with a respective single sheet 25 of packaging material intended to define the single envelope 3.
The single sheet 25 of packaging material is obtained by cutting a continuous web 26 of packaging material unwound from a reel 27.
Along the continuous belt 26 of packaging material, pre-cut points or lines can be made to facilitate the opening of the single wrapper 3 of the absorbent article 2.
Alternatively, to facilitate the opening of the single envelope 3, it is possible to apply an opening tape, not shown, along the continuous belt 26 or along the single sheets 25 obtained by cutting the continuous belt 26.
