â € œSPACER ELEMENT FOR INSULATING GLASS PANELSâ €.
CAMPO TECNICO DELL’INVENZIONE TECHNICAL FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to a spacer element for insulating glass units.
STATO DELLA TECNICA ANTERIORE STATE OF THE PRIOR ART
As is known, insulating glass units, also called double glazing, consist of two or more flat glass plates joined together, at the perimeter, by a spacer frame, made of polymeric or mixed metal material, and separated by a layer of air or gas, for example argon, krypton, xenon.
The spacer frame is shaped so that dehydrating salts can be housed inside, which prevent the appearance of condensation in the volume between the glass plates.
Seals are normally applied both between the spacer frame and the glass sheets, and externally to the sheets themselves at their perimeter edge.
Some of the insulating glass units must be specifically designed to house a curtain kit, for example of the Venetian, roller, pleated type, etc., which moves between the two glass panes.
If you intend to house an awning kit inside the insulating glass, it is necessary to join the support box of the awning, which also houses the controls of the awning itself, to at least three spacer elements, connected to each other through corner joints, so as to define the perimeter frame to which the glass sheets will then be fixed.
Currently, spacer elements made of extruded aluminum profiles with a thickness of 0.70 - 0.80 mm are used to make insulating glass units with awning kit, sufficient to withstand the stresses generated by an awning kit during the assembly, testing and coupling to the glass, i.e. its own weight and the dynamic actions due to its lifting and lowering movement (testing phase).
The aluminum spacer elements not associated with an awning kit, on the other hand, have a much lower thickness - between 0.20 mm and 0.35 mm - which would not allow them to withstand the aforementioned stresses. At the same time, one of the most felt needs in the sector of insulating glass production is currently that of limiting the linear thermal transmittance of windows, through which, according to some estimates, about 50% of the thermal energy produced is dispersed. € ™ interior of the buildings.
The extruded aluminum spacer elements of the type described above, that is suitable for supporting a curtain kit, do not allow to obtain good results in this sense due to their high metallic thickness, since aluminum is a strong thermal conductor.
To limit the thermal transmittance of insulating glass units, spacer elements of the so-called warm edge type are currently available on the market, which limit the transmission of heat towards the outside compared to traditional spacer elements.
None of the warm edge spacer elements currently available on the market, however, can be adapted to known type curtain kits to be inserted inside the insulating glass units.
More specifically, none of the known warm edge spacer elements has characteristics such as to be able to withstand the stresses generated by a curtain kit during assembly, testing and the various stages of coupling to the glass.
For greater clarity, the characteristics of two families of warm edge spacers currently available on the market are considered below.
The spacer elements of both families are composed of a metal part and a plastic part which houses the dehydrating salts, and which conducts heat much less than the metal part.
According to a first family, the spacer elements include a metal profile in the shape of a `` U '' and a plastic profile also in the shape of a `` U '', coupled together to form a closed tubular with the metal profile that surmounts the plastic one and turns towards the outside.
The spacer elements of this first family have the metal part that has a thickness not exceeding 0.10 mm (otherwise it would lose the peculiar characteristics of warm edge), which, if made of stainless steel, is sufficient to give stiffness to the ™ element but not sufficient to withstand the stresses of the awning kit. Also the thickness of the plastic part is consequently rather small and not such as to help increase the resistance of the element.
The spacer elements belonging to a second family of known type comprise a rigid tubular in plastic material to which a metallic layer, in stainless steel or aluminum, of small thickness - for example 0.03 mm - is applied, which does not it has the function of stiffening the plastic tubular, but only of constituting an impermeable barrier to gas.
In fact, the use of plastic materials - which on the one hand limits, as mentioned, the thermal transmittance - does not provide satisfactory results as regards gas permeability: plastics in fact have microporosities through which gases contained inside the insulating glass can escape, or through which air can penetrate inside the insulating glass.
For this reason it is necessary to associate a metal part with the plastic material, which is instead impermeable to gases.
For the barrier against the escape of gases to be effective, the metal part must develop from one flat glass to the other, touching them both seamlessly.
It therefore follows that the metal part forms a real thermal bridge, which increases the thermal transmittance: to limit it, thin thicknesses of the metal part are used.
Insulating glass manufacturers, therefore, are faced with the need to create spacer elements that have a low thermal transmittance - that is, they are of the warm edge type - they are not permeable to gases and have resistance characteristics such as to be able to be coupled to any awning kit to be housed inside the window.
Ultimately, none of the spacer elements of a known type currently available on the market allow all these requirements to be satisfied at the same time.

FORME DI ATTUAZIONE DELL’INVENZIONE. FORMS OF IMPLEMENTATION OF THE INVENTION.
With reference to Figure 1, the reference numeral 1 generally indicates a spacer element for insulating glass units according to the invention.
The spacer element according to the present invention can be used for making insulating glass of any type, without any limitation. The spacer element according to the present invention is particularly, but not exclusively, indicated for the production of insulating glass units intended to house awning kits of any type, for example Venetian blinds, roller blinds, pleats, etc.
L’elemento distanziale comprende un profilato tubolare 2. The spacer element includes a tubular profile 2.
Il profilato tubolare 2 Ã ̈ realizzato in materiale plastico. The tubular profile 2 is made of plastic material.
For example, the tubular section can be made of a material chosen from PVC, polypropylene, or the like, or a mixture thereof, or any other plastic material suitable for the present application.
The use of a similar plastic material allows to considerably reduce the thermal transmittance of the spacer element 1 compared to traditional elements, made of aluminum, and suitable for supporting a curtain kit.
The tubular section 2 comprises two opposite lateral faces 2 for coupling with two respective glass plates 4.
The coupling between the tubular section 2 and the glass sheets 4 is made with adhesive materials of a type known in the field, and which in any case do not constitute an object of the present invention.
The glass plates 4 isolate, between them, in a per se known manner, a laminar volume inside which a gas such as argon, krypton, xenon, or other gas suitable for the present application is contained.
Furthermore, the tubular section 2 comprises a surface facing outwards 5 of the insulating glass unit and a surface facing inwards 6 of the glass itself, opposite each other.
The tubular section 2 also comprises an internal housing 7.
L’alloggiamento interno 7 à ̈ destinato ad accogliere sali disidratanti 8 e simili. The internal housing 7 is designed to accommodate dehydrating salts 8 and the like.
The tubular section 2 comprises, in correspondence with the surface facing inwards 6, micro-perforations 9 which place the internal housing 7 in communication with the volume of gas defined by the glass plates 4, in order to make the dehydrating salts contained in the internal housing 7 itself.
According to an aspect of the present invention, the tubular section 2 comprises at least one metal insert 10 embedded therein.
The metal insert 10 is at least partially embedded inside the tubular profile 2, in correspondence with at least one of the side faces 3.
However, the metal insert 10 could have any other arrangement, for example along the longitudinal faces, or in any other area, in relation to specific requirements.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, there is a single metal insert 10 in correspondence with one of the side faces 3.
More in detail, the metal insert 10 is arranged parallel to a lateral face 3.
The metal insert 10 is made of a material chosen from stainless steel, iron, aluminum, or the like, or any other metal material suitable for the present application.
The metal insert 10, suitably sized, helps to increase the resistance of the spacer element 1, in other words it allows the latter to become load-bearing, i.e. able to withstand the stresses due to the presence of a curtain kit , both the static ones, due to the weight, and the dynamic ones during testing, i.e. due to the lifting and lowering movement.
Furthermore, the metal insert 10, since it is drowned in the tubular profile 2, does not influence the thermal transmission of the entire spacer element 1, ie it does not in any way constitute a thermal bridge between the two glass plates 4.
In the particular embodiment shown in Figure 1, the metal insert 10 is completely embedded in the tubular section 2.
In other embodiments, not shown in the figures, of the spacer element 1 according to the present invention, the metal insert 10 could also partially protrude outside the tubular section 2, even without constituting a thermal bridge between the two glass plates 4.
Furthermore, the arrangement of the metal insert 10 within the tubular section 2, as well as its shape and dimensions, can be any, in relation to the specific application requirements, without any particular limitation.
For example, the metal insert 10 could have a complex section instead of a rectangular one, with variations in thickness, curves, folds, etc. still.
Or again, the metal insert 10 could be made up of several separate portions, both longitudinally along the spacer element 1, and in section.
According to another aspect of the present invention, the tubular section 2 comprises at least one side fin 11.
The side flap 11 defines, at least partially, one of the opposite side faces 3 of the tubular section 2, as illustrated in Figure 1.
Nella forma di attuazione rappresentata, l’inserto metallico 10 à ̈ incorporato almeno parzialmente all’interno dell’aletta laterale 11. In the embodiment shown, the metal insert 10 is incorporated at least partially inside the side flap 11.
In other embodiments, the metal insert 10 may not be incorporated inside the side flap 11.
The dimensions of the side flap and its shape can obviously be any, in relation to the specific application requirements.
The presence of at least one lateral fin 11 in the tubular section 2 allows to obtain many technical advantages.
In the first place, it helps to increase the resistance of the spacer element 1, as it can house a portion of the metal insert 10 inside.
Secondly, the at least one side flap 11 contributes to optimizing the diffusion of light through the insulating glass, for example by obscuring the perimeter edges of the glass itself when the blind is completely lowered.
Thirdly, the at least one side flap 11 constitutes an optimal sliding surface for the slats - or other elements - of the blind, as often the slats of the venetian blind, made of painted aluminum, could touch the fin 11 of the tubular profile 2 producing noise or hissing due to sliding.
Fourthly, the at least one side flap 11 made of plastic material limits the formation of dust, in the event that there is rubbing with the removal of particles of material due to the sliding of the curtain, which instead occurs more abundantly with traditional spacer elements, for example those made of extruded aluminum.
It is therefore not necessary to apply Teflon films or similar as occurs in known type profiles.
The spacer element 1 according to the present invention also comprises at least one metal film 12, or metallized plastic, coupled to the tubular section 2 at its surface facing outwards 5.
More in detail, the metallic film 12, or metallized plastic, is coupled to the tubular profile by means of medium / high density polyurethane glue.
The metal film 12 constitutes an effective barrier against the escape of the gas contained in the insulating glass or the penetration of air inside it.
The use of high density polyurethane glue, as well as being more ecological than other adhesives, contributes to the creation of the gas barrier.
We have thus seen how the invention achieves the proposed aims.
The spacer element 1 according to the invention makes it possible to effectively withstand the assembly of a curtain kit inside the insulating glass, as it has an adequately reinforced cross section thanks to the presence of at least one metal insert 10.
In particular, the spacer element 1 can reliably and safely withstand both static stresses, i.e. the weight of the awning kit itself, and dynamic stresses, due to the raising and lowering of the awning, without any risk of deformation or collapse.
Furthermore, the spacer element 1 according to the present invention allows to keep the thermal transmittance within the desired values, since it does not in any way constitute a significant thermal bridge between the two glass plates 4.
In addition, as mentioned, also the presence of at least one lateral fin 11 in which the metal insert 10 is embedded allows to obtain the important advantages already described.
Figure 2 illustrates another embodiment of the spacer element 1 according to the present invention.
The spacer element 1 according to the embodiment of figure 2 is completely identical to that of figure 1 except for the fact that the tubular section 2 comprises in this case two lateral fins 11 which respectively define the two opposite side faces 3 of the tubular section 2.
In correspondence with the two lateral flaps 11 there are two respective metal inserts 10, in a manner which is entirely similar to that described for the previous embodiment.
The presence of two lateral fins 11 instead of one, with two respective metal inserts 10, allows to further increase the resistance of the spacer element 1, in a completely intuitive way, making it symmetrical and therefore more stable and balanced from the point of view of the applicable loads.
Furthermore, the presence of two lateral fins 11 makes the spacer element perfectly symmetrical also from the point of view of the diffusion of light through the insulating glass.
Furthermore, the presence of two lateral flaps 11 provides a better guide to the sliding of the curtain inserted inside the insulating glass.
Yet another embodiment of the spacer element 1 according to the present invention is illustrated in Figure 3.
In this embodiment, the tubular section 2 has no lateral fins 11.
There are two metal inserts 10 completely embedded inside the tubular section 2, in correspondence with the side faces 3.
The metal inserts 10 could also partially protrude from the tubular section 2, provided they do not constitute a thermal bridge between the glass sheets. This embodiment constitutes a simplified version of the spacer element according to the invention, while maintaining its main characteristics and main technical advantages.
