Abstract
An elastomeric hot melt adhesive compsn. comprises: (A) thermoplastic elastomer(s), and (B) tackifying resin(s). The thermoplastic elastomer(s) being a styrene/butadiene/styrene (SBS) copolymer or a blend of SBS with styrene/isoprene/styrene (SIS) in which SIS is present in an amt. equal to or less than 50 wt.% of the total block copolymer. The compsn. comprises: a) capability of bonding, when applied from the molten state, plastic and/or cellulosic materials, with a 90 deg peel force not lower than 0.5 N/cm; b) a tensile strength retention after 50 cycles of at least 40%; and c) a viscosity of 120,000 cps or less at 180 deg C and an applied shear of 80 second-1. Also claimed are: i) an elastomeric hot melt adhesive compsn.; ii) threads or strips formed from the elastomeric hot melt adhesive compsns.; iii) prodn. of the threads or strips; iv) appts. for the application of an elastomeric hot melt adhesive to a raw material; v) prodn. of an adhesive by foaming the hot melt adhesive compsn., extruding the foam produced and cooling the foam; vi) an elasticated absorbent article, where elastication is provided by the hot melt adhesive compsn.; vii) method of providing elastication in defined areas of an article; and viii) an elasticated article in which elastication is provided by a thermoplastic elastomeric compsn. applied under elastic tension and the elastic tension is completely or partially deactivated in defined areas.
