Abstract

The process is entirely performed on a rotating drum plant, of the type used for the zinc plating of small metal parts, and involves an electrolytic zinc plating stage, by which a first protective layer of zinc having a first predefined thickness is deposited onto the surface of the metals to be protected, a stage of immersion of the metals to be protected in a passivation bath capable of effecting the deposition of a second protective layer having a predefined second thickness and colour onto the first zinc layer and containing passivating inhibitors of zinc corrosion, and a stage of immersion of the metals to be protected in a finishing bath containing polysilicides and organic polymers capable of forming a third protective layer of a predefined thickness on the second coloured protective layer, and at least one chromophoric substance capable of binding to the said polysilicides and organic polymers so as combine with those deposited to form the said third protective layer and capable of imparting to the finishing bath a colour essentially identical to that of the second protective layer; the third bath is maintained at a density lying between 1.035 and 1.050 kg/l (values at 20 degree C).
