Abstract
Permanent anti-static treatment of synthetic fabrics comprises applying aq. compsns. contg. (A) an ethoxylated cpd. of formula (I) (where R1 is 8-22C alkyl; R2 is 1-22C alkyl or (CH2CH2O)rR4; R3 is H, CH2CH2NH2 or CH2CH2SH; R4 is as R3 or 1-4C alkyl; n, p and r are 5-60; X- is an anion) and (B) a melamine deriv of formula (II) (where R5 is H or CH2OZ; Z is H or 1-4C alkyl; at least 2 R5 gps. are CH2OZ.) The fabric is then heated to react (A) with (B). Good resistance to washing and improved resistance to discolouration in use, e.g. in contact with rubber compsns. contg. sulphur, esp. if washed in anionic detergent after treatment, is obtd.
