Abstract

The circuit includes a conversion unit which detects the impedance variations of a part of the patient's body depending on respiration and turns them into a corresponding analogue signal with sampling signals lasting about 122 microseconds and repeated at intervals of about 125 ms. A unit (20) extracts from the noisy output signal of the conversion unit a clear and regular signal, e.g. a squared one, from which it is easier to obtain the right variable proportional to the respiratory parameter chosen. The variable is then used to physiologically control an electrostimulation circuit, e.g. for a pacemaker. The extracting unit detects, at the sample rate of the body impedance, the time variations of the voltage corresponding to the impedance measurement taken from time to time, the variations being both positive and negative with regard to the line corresponding to the so called base impedance.
