Abstract
Potentiated compsns. contain (a) a non-steroidal antiinflammatory (I) and (b) an antiarthritic agent of formula Ar.CX.CH2CN (II) (X = oxo or imino. Ar = 2- or 3-thienyl or R-substd. phenyl. R=H or F but cannot be ortho-F when X is imino). The wt. ratio (I):(II) is 100:1-1:100. Specified compsns. contain p-fluorobenzoylacetonitrile plus acetylsalicylic acid; 1-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-5-methoxy-2-methyl-1H-indole-3-acetic acid (Ia); gamma-oxo-(1,1'-biphenyl)-4-butanoic acid; 5-methoxy-alpha-methyl-2-naphthalene acetic acid; 4-bityl-1,2-diphenyl-3,5-pyrazolidenedione; or alpha-methyl-4-(2-methylpropyl) benzeneacetic acid. Compsns. are useful for treating inflammation and for inhibiting progressive deterioration of joints and the progress of arthritis. The components show synergistic enhancement of activity and are administered at 1-250, esp. 5-100, mg/kg per day.
