Abstract
The wall or at least one wall of a container for the storage of dangerous materials consists of a laminate. This has an inner layer of relatively rigid, fibre-reinforced, synthetic material and an outer layer of an elastomeric material. For pref. the layer of elastomeric material is sandwiched between the inner layer of relative rigid material and a second layer of relatively rigid material. For pref. the second layer is of glass-fibre-reinforced material. Used to provide structures capable of withstanding a local attack such as by a projectile requiring a hole of 100 mm dia. for its passage, and which are therefor suitable for the storage of explosives. The protective structure affords a certain amt. of defence against attack, and restrains the effect when penetration has taken place, by self-sealing action of the elastomer. The containers are esp. applicable to the storage of materials which burn without explosion, although the speed of combustion may be high.
