Abstract

A pipe carrying the gaseous and liq. phase of a fluid is arranged to include an elbow. Positioned in this elboy are hollow blades which guide the flow of fluid round the bend and also remove the liq. phase. Each blade has longitudinal slits, perpendicular to the plane of the 2 pipe axes, in its inner surface on the part not hidden by the preceding blade and reached by the straight path of the liq. These slits have directing vanes along their length. The inner cavity of the blades opens out at one end at least in a connection outside the elbow, so the liq. collected may be removed. Reinforcing and guide components for the liq. are also positioned in the inner cavity. Used partic. for the removal of water from steam in the pipe between the high and low pressure stages of a steam turbine. Method avoids the liq. phase tending to be a partially vaporised in the offtake pipe and avoids retarding its removal.
