Claims (18)

1. What We Claim is :- 1. An inhalation device, which is adapted to administer a medicament to the lungs and to be activated by the inspiration of the user, in combination with means adapted to indicate audibly when a desired • 5 air flow through the device is achieved.
2. A device according to Claim 1, wherein the device is adapted to administer a powdered medicament.
3. A device according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the inhalation device adapted to administer medicament to the lungs, comprises a 10 hollow elongate housing having at both ends thereof an air passageway and having one end adapted for insertion into the mouth; and a propeller-like member rotatably mounted in the housing on a rigid shaft mounted in the housing and coaxial with the longitudinal axis of the housing, said propeller-like device having on the part thereof 15 furthest from the end of the housing adapted for insertion into the mouth, mounting means adapted to receive a container, such as a gelatine or like capsule for the medicament to be inhaled aind said propeller-like device being so mounted on said shaft that the passage of a stream of air through the device causes not only rotational 20 movement of the propeller-like device, but also a vibrational movement of the propeller-like device.
4. 1. A device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the means adapted to indicate audibly when the desired air flow through the device is achieved is a whistle, a propeller like device in which 25 the blades are designed to emit a noise on reaching a given speed, or - 10 - a siren.
5. A device according to Claim ·+, wherein an acoustic whistle is used.
6. A device according to Claim 5, wherein the acoustic whistle is an edge tone generator, a ring tone generator or a hole tone generator.
7. A device according to Claim 6 , wherein the whistle is a hole tone generator.
8. A device according to any one of Claims 4 to 7, wherein a double orifice whistle is used.
9. A device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the means adapted to indicate audibly when the desired air flow through the device is achieved is used in combination with an air by-pass.
10. f A device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the means adapted to indicate audibly when the desired air flow · through the device is achieved is such that the sound emitted changes at more than one rate of air flow through the device.
11. A device according to Claim 10, wherein the means adapted to indicate audibly when the desired air flow through the device is achieved is adapted to indicate a minimum and a maximum desirable air flow, or a minimum and a desirable average air flow.
12. A device according to any one of the preceding claims , wherein the means adapted to indicate audibly when the desired air flow through the device is achieved is adapted to produce a change from not sounding 16/A 95 - 11 - to sounding, or vice versa.
13. A device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the means adapted to indicate audibly when the desired air flow through the device is achieved is actuatable when the user inhales through the device, but not when the user exhales through the device.
14. A device according to any one of the preceding claims , wherein the inhalation device and the means adapted to indicate audibly when the desired air flow through the device is achieved are made separately, the two parts being made in such a way that they may be fitted together.
15. A device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the means adapted to indicate audibly when the desired air flow through the device is achieved is positioned upstream of a point at which medicament is to be dispersed into the air stream. '
16. A device according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the inhalation device is a device claimed in British Patent Specification No 1,182,779.
17. A device according to Claim 1 and substantially as described in the accompanying drawing.
18. A method of dispersing a medicament into an air stream using a device claimed in any one of the preceding claims. For 1h
