Claims (3)

Appln. 42350/2 What is claimed is:
1. · A method for vacuum vapor depositing a metal coating on a metallic article surface, characterized by the steps of: providing the surface with a surface finish of no greater than 100 rms; rotating the article; preheating the surface of the article in a vacuum in the range of 1550-2050°P through bombardment of the surface with a scanning electron beam on the surface o the rotating article to prepare and clean the surface; and then coating the surface in vacuum by vapor depositing the metal coating on the cleaned surface; the rotation of the article and the application of the scanning electron beam being continued so that the electron beam is applied both before and during coating on one portion of the rotating article while the article is being coated on another portion, to maintain heat and cleanliness.
2. A method according to claim 1 in which: the metallic article is of a high temperature alloy based on an element selected from the group consisting of Ni and Co; and the metal coating is an alloy based on an element selected from the group consisting of Fe, Ni and Co. Tel-Avi t June 18, 197
