Abstract
1382587 Blood cholesterol-lowering medicines IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 Oct 1972 [16 Dec 1971] 58398/71 Heading A5B Pharmaceutical compositions having hypocholesterolemic and serum triglyceride-lowering action comprise 2-p-chlorophenoxy-2- methylpropionic acid or an ester, amide or salt thereof and from 10 to 25% by weight thereof of a tocopherol having vitamin A activity, e.g. α-, #-, γ- or #-tocopherol, esters thereof and mixtures. Suitable esters of the propionic acid derivatives include those with alcohols R'OH where R' is piperidyl or alkyl substituted by pyridyl or nicotinoyloxy groups. The compositions may be in conventional orally administrable forms comprising the axial excipients and carriers.

Claims (9)
1. A pharmaceutical composition comprising 2-p-chloro-phenoxy-2-methylpropionic acid, the ethyl or 1 , 3-trimethylene di-ester thereof or the sodium, potassium or calcium salt or the aluminium hydroxide di-salt thereof, and from 10% to 25% of the weight thereof of a tocopherol possessing vitamin E activity or an ester thereof, in pharmaceutically acceptable form.
2. A composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable form is a mixture together with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent.
3. A composition as claimed in claim 2 which is in the form of a tablet, capsule, suspension, emulsion, dispersible powder, syrup or elixir.
4. A composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable form is a dosage unit in which the active ingredients are enclosed without any additional diluent.
5. A composition as claimed in claim 4 which is in the form of a capsule.
6. A composition as claimed in any preceding claim y- or J"-tocopherol or a mixture thereof, and the ester of a tocopherol is an ester with acetic acid or succinic acid.
7. A composition as claimed in claim 6 comprising active ingredients ethyl 2-p-chlorophenoxy-2-methylpropionate and DL- -tocopheryl acetate. 40785/3"
8. A composition as claimed in claim 7 which is in the form of a gelatin capsule containing 425 mg. of ethyl 2-p-chlorophenoxy-2-methylpropionate and 75-80 mg. of DL-to^-tocopheryl acetate.
