Claims (5)

1. CLAIMS 1. A method of controlling a machine with signals derived f om a pattern, comprising the steps of optically scanning a drawing of said pattern, derivin therefrom electrical signals characteristic of said pattern, permanently storing the signals of the complete pattern in a storage device , reading out said permanently-stored signals from said storage device, feeding the readr-out signals to a pattern-reproducing device whereb there is reproduced a visible pattern corresponding to the permanently-stored signals, checking and/or correcting the reproduced pattern, repeating several or all of the said steps with said reproduced pattern until the .signals permanently stored in the storage device correspond precisely to the desired pattern, and then reading out the permanently-stored signals to control the machine.

A method according to claim 3, wherein the drawing or the reproduced pattern is scanned portion by portion and wherein the signals received from one portion of the drawin or the reproduced pattern are temporarily stored until that portion has been completely scanned and are then permanently stored prior to the scan of a succeeding portion.

A method according to claim 2, wherein the said portion is a complete line of said drawing or reproduced pattern, 4· A method in accordance with claim 2 or 3, wherei all the signals obtained from each portion are stored in the form of a single iitformation block. 5. A method in accordance with claim 2, 3 or 4» wherein several portions of the drawing are scanned simultaneously. 38283/2 6. A method in accordance with claim 2, 3, 4 or 5» wherein the reproduction of a portion Of the patter takes place after the scanning of the portion concerned, but before the commencement of the scanning of the succeeding portion. 7. A method in accordance with any of claims 1 to 5» wherein the reproduction of the pattern takes place after the entry into storage of all the information obtained from the drawing. 8· A method in accordance with any of claims 1 to 7, wherein the scanning and entry into storage are carried ou simultaneously, 9. Apparatus for controlling a machine with signals derived from a pattern* comprising an optical scanning device for scanning a drawing or reproduced pattern, an evaluation circuit coupled to said scannin device for the generation of electrical signals corresponding to the colours or characteristics of the drawing or reproduced pattern, a storage device coupled to the evaluation circuit or permanentl storing the electrical signals, a pattern reproducing device connected to the storage device , a control device for reading from the storage device and feeding to the patter reproducing device the stored signals so that a pattern corresponding to the stored signals will be reproduced, and a buffer store coupled to said scanning device, said storage device and said pattern reproducing device for adapting the working speeds of said devices to each other. 10. Apparatus according to claim 9, wherein the pattern 38285/2 11. Apparatus in accordance with claim 9 or 10, wherein— the storage device is a magnetic tape, disc, drum or core, - punched card , punched tape or magnetic card storage unit for storing information of the complete drawing or reproduced pattern. 12· Apparatus in accordance with claim 9, 10 or 11, wherein blocks of informatio are obtained correspondin to the scanning portion by portion of the drawing or reproduced pattern* 13. Apparatus in accordance with claim 12 or 13, wherein information blocks obtained b scanning each portion of the drawing or reproduced pattern are recorded in the form of a loop wit the last block adjacent the first block. 15· Apparatus in accordance with claim 14, wherein a dummy information block is recorded when scanning a drawing or reproduced pattern with an odd number of said portions. 16. Apparatus in accordance with any of claims 12 to 15, wherein the storage device comprises a magnetic tape storage unit with start/stop operation and one start/stop cycle per portion scanned of the drawing or reproduced pattern. 17. Apparatus in accordance with any of claims 12 to 16, including betwee the scanning device and the storage device on the one hand and between the storage device and the reproducing device on the other hand a device by means of which information blocks are staggered in time in relation to one another. 18» Apparatus in accordance with any of claims 12 to 17, 38283/2 information of a given number of colours or characteristics . 19. Apparatus in accordance with claim 19» wherei several loops of information bloeks are formed, each loop being allocated to a respective colour or characteristic. 20· Apparatus in accordance with any of claims 12 to 19» including a device for addressing and correcting each individual information block of the drawing or reproduced pattern as stored in the storage device. 21. Apparatus in accordance wit any of claims 9 to 19» including a device for addressing and correcting each individual point of the drawing or reproduced pattern a» stored in the storage device. 22· Apparatus in accordance with any of claims 9 to 19» including a device for addrees^d wing paper to be printed is fixed on a rotating drum and the scanning device and the pattern reproducing device have heads which can be mounted interchangeably on a slide which can be moved parallel to the axis of the drum. 23. Apparatus in accordance with any of claims to 22» wherein the pattern reproducing device comprises an electromagnetic multicolor printer, the printing pins of which are each fixed on to a moving coil of an electromagnet* 24· Apparatus in accordance with claim 23, wherein the printing pins when in the pushed forward position are at a distance from one another along a straight line or an arc of a citcle. 2
