Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of the invention
This invention relates to boots. In particular the invention relates to boots for use in riding and associated equestrian pursuits. The invention is particularly directed to ankle boots for protection of the user's feet and ankles in riding and equestrian activities.
Description of the prior art
Ankle boots for use in riding and equestrian activities are known. Such boots differ in the amount of support and protection offered to the wearer in the ankle region.
Brief Summary of the Invention
It is an object of the invention to provide improved ankle boots applicable for riding and equestrian activities, in which the boot is
- 2 S80965 distinguished by providing additional support and protection to the wearer in the ankle region while retaining the comfort and appearance of the boot.
According to the invention, there is provided an ankle boot comprising:
a) a bottom comprising a sole having a heel portion,
b) an upper having a quarter with two flaps forming the front part of the quarter extending to the top of the boot wherein a lacing mechanism extends in a substantially lower portion of the flaps, but there is no lacing mechanism in a substantially upper portion of the flaps, and
c) an ankle support providing a separate layer outside the upper portion of the flaps and comprising left and right support panels which are not attached to the flaps, the left and right second support panels having a lacing mechanism whereby the support panels can be laced together around the flaps.
Preferably the ankle support comprises a rear portion secured at the counter of the boot and wings extending forwardly from the rear portion.
The sole preferably further comprises an integrally moulded heel cradle, substantially extending upwardly from the heel portion of the sole. A riding boot having a protective heel cradle of this kind is an invention in itself.
The invention also encompasses each and every novel feature of the boot as described herein with reference to and/or as shown in the drawings.
Brief Description of the Drawings
The invention will now be described having regard to the accompanying drawings, in which
Figure 1 is a side view of a first embodiment of ankle boot in accordance with the invention,
Figure 2 is a view from the side of an ankle boot bottom in accordance with the invention.
Detailed Description of the Drawings
Averting to Figure 1, an ankle boot 1 according to the invention is shown from the side. The boot comprises a bottom 20 to which an upper 30 of the boot is secured.
As shown in Figure 2 the bottom 20 is moulded as one piece of durable sole composition such as TR rubber and comprises a sole 21 and heel 22 with an extended heel cradle 2 above the heel 22. This heel cradle 2 cradles the user's heel thus offering additional heel support and protection to the wearer. The cradle extends around the back of the boot. The top edge of the cradle 2 slopes upwardly from the instep towards the back of the boot where it has a height approximately equal to that of the user's heel.
The upper 30 of leather, shown in Figure 1, comprises a vamp 3, quarter 4 and counter 6 of the boot. The quarter is stitched to the vamp along line 5. The front part of the quarter comprises flaps 15,16 which extend to the top of the boot. Eyelets 7 for lacing are provided in the lower portion of the flaps, but do not extend up more than half of the entire height of the flaps.
