Abstract

A pyrogallol of formula I is prepared by hydrolysis of a 2,2,6,6-tetrahalocyclohexanone of formula II, it being possible for the latter to be obtained by halogenation of cyclohexanone. In the formulae, R<1> to R<3> are each a halogen atom or an alkyl radical and the Xs are either chlorine atoms or are all bromine atoms. This process is more efficient than that by decarboxylation of gallic acid. <IMAGE> <IMAGE> [CH618670A5]
