Abstract
1353480 Citric acid TAKEDA YAKUHIN KOGYO KK 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 25989/71 Heading C2C Citric acid is prepared by a fermentation process using a strain of a yeast, mould, or bacterium capable of accumulating citric acid and whose growth is inhibited by a citric acid-antimetabolite or a precursor thereof. The citric acid-antimetabolite is a halogenocitric acid and the precursor is a halogenacetic halogenopyruvic, halogeno-oxalacetic or halogenosuccinic acid. Many suitable yeasts of the genus Brettanomyces, Candida, Pichia, Debaryomyces, Hansulena, Saccharomyces or Kloecera, bacteria of the genus Brevibacterium, Escherichia, Corynebacterium, Arthrobacter, Alkaligenes, Achromobacter and Micrococcus, and moulds of the genus Aspergillus, Penicillium, and Mucor are listed. Suitable micro-organisms may be prepared by induced mutation with high energy radiation or by chemical agents. Carbon sources in the medium may be hydrocarbons, glucose, glycerine and organic acids. Examples describe the use of a mutant strain of Candida lipolytica, Debaryomyces sp., Pichia haplophila, Brettanomyces clausserii, Brevibacterium flavum, Achromobacter nucleoacidoves, Corynebacterium fascians, Penicillium chermisinum, Arthrobacter paraffineus, prepared by irradiation with ultraviolet rays, of Candida lipolytica treated with N - methyl - N<SP>1</SP> - nitro - N - nitrosoguanidine.
