Abstract

1,262,556. Bile-acid binding compositions. BRISTOL-MYERS CO. 19 Sept., 1969 [20 Sept., 1968], No. 46240/69. Heading A5B. A composition for binding bile-acid in the digestive tract of a taurine/bile acid conjugatesecreting animal (or human) comprises a non- toxic, bile-acid binding anion exchange resin and taurine or a salt or a precursor thereof (e.g. cysteine, cysteine-sulphinic acid, hypotaurine and methionine). The preferred resin is cholesstyramine; others mentioned include polystyrene resins cross-linked with divinyl benzene and containing amino acid addition salt or quaternary ammonium exchange groups, certain cellulose and dextran derivatives and polyethylene imine resins. The invention also comprises the treatment of non-human animals for the above-mentioned purpose by concamitantly administering thereto the resin and taurine or taurine derivative. [GB1262556A]
