Heading C3T. [Also in Division C5] A lubricant comprises a mineral oil and 0 1-15 wt. per cent of an oil-miscible diorganopolysiloxane in which a major proportion of the organo groups are Me and the remainder are substituted or unsubstituted C 6 -C 30 alkyl, alkaryl or aralkyl groups. The substituents may be halogen, ester, ether, amino, nitrile, amide, urethane, sulphide, sulphone, sulphate, sulphonate, phosphate, phosphite, phosphonate or polyoxyalkylene groups. The polysiloxanes may be prepared by reacting trimethylsilylended methylhydrogenpolysiloxane with one or more α-olefins in the presence of a complex of a platinous salt and an olefin, optionally in the presence of the mineral oil. Polysiloxanes used in the examples include a trimethylsilyl-ended methyl chlorophenyl polysiloxane and the products from reaction of a trimethylsilyl-ended methyl hydrogen polysiloxane and tetradecane alone or with allyl cyanide or methylvinyl sulphone or diethyl allylphosphonate, or an octene, n-amyl undecylenate, 2-(N,N-diethylamino)- ethyl undecylenate, phenyl allyl ether or cetyl N-allyl carbamate.
