Abstract

For the first time two fungi are described: the fungus Phoma sepium f. sp. arvensi and the fungus Septoria calystegiae f. sp. Convolvuli, with the first causing dehydration of sprouts and defoliation, the second by selection causing the same on weed Convolvus arvensis (commonly field bindweed). Both fungi can be easily cultivated with various artificial nutritive sub layers, providing large numbers of spores. When fungal spores sprayed on plants, they satisfactorily combat the weed without interfering with other types of plants. Depending on the stage of development of the weed and the seriousness of the problem, the fungi can be either used separately or combined. The two fungi are suggested for biological combating of the weed, either by direct use of spores from a recent cultivation, or after the production of conserved spore packages with suitable added formulation agents.
