Abstract

This invention refers to hydroxyapatite deposition on polymers modified with phosphoric groups, such as polystyrol, polystyrol-divinyl benzol (1.5 percent) and Porapak-NR with the aim of transforming them into favourable sub layers for deposition of macroscopic quantities of stoichiometric hydroxyapatite (Ca5(PO4)3OH,HAp). HAp is the compound prototype for the inorganic hard tissue component in higher mammals. It has been found that inert polymers can be transformed into favourable surfaces for the deposition of HAp by the formation on its surface of the following groups: [CHEMICAL FORMULA]. In this way, modified polymers can be potentially considered candidate materials for use in prosthetic medicine.
