Abstract

The invention provides a method of forming oil-in-water polyurea microcapsules containing volatile, organic compounds (e.g. semiochemicals) for use as delivery systems in pest management. Application of the method led to the encapsulation of different semiochemicals (e.g. the Z-11-hexadecenyl acetate, the (5R, 6S) -6- acetoxy -5- hexadecanolide and the mixture of isomers of 6-acetoxy-5-hexadecanolide). The produced microcapsules revealed a relative slow release of the pheromones for almost onemonth period providing a good potential for their use as controlled-release devices in alternative insect control applications.
