Abstract

he production of a photoelectrochemical solid type cell is proposed in the form of a thin hymenium that can be used for the conversion of solar energy into electricity. The principal parts of the cell. An illustration of which is represented in theattached drawing are: (1) a small glass plate coated with a thin hymenium of Indium - Tin Oxide (ITO) which is commercially available; (2) a layer of Titanium oxide (TiO2) with a mean porous nanocrustal structure of the type of anatase in the form of a thin transparent hymenium of a selected thickness which is produced through a process of molecular moulds as described above; (3) an adsorbed layer of an organometallic derivative of trispyridine of ruthenium which acts as a photo-sensitizer of TiO2 which is commercially available; (4) a solid electrode layer consisting of a hybrid organic/inorganic polymer impregnated in I2/KI produced by conversion of a colloid solution into a gel as described above and ; (5) a second ITO plate which is the second electrode which completes the cell. Alternatively onto the ITO layer of the second electrode a thin Pt hymenium is deposited by sublimation under vacuum, acting catalytically and increasing the yield of the cell. The electrical connections with the two electrodes are effected with electrically conductive paste or epoxy glue impregnated in silver or with an electrically conducting self-adhesive copper band, both of which are commercially available.
