A track device for a traffic toy has intersecting road and rail sections 36, 126, Fig. 2, in which a relay, operated by an approaching rail vehicle closes road gates 40, 240 and cuts off power to parts 42, 242 of the road track prior to the intersection, and opens the gates and restores power to the road track after the rail vehicle reaches a point beyond the intersection. The relay is contained in a housing 46 simulating a gate-keeper's hut. The armature 52, Figs. 1 and 4, of the relay has alternative stable positions. When a rail vehicle reaches a ramp 70 from the right in Fig. 1, a temporary circuit is completed through coil 48 to move the armature 52 to the left-hand position to complete a circuit through contacts 56 to solenoids which close gates 40, 240, 340, 440. At the same time contacts 62 are opened to interrupt power supply to road sections 42, 242, 342, 442 whereby road vehicles are automatically stopped pending the passage of the rail vehicle over the crossing. When the rail vehicle reaches ramp 72, a temporary circuit is completed through relay coil 50, whereby the contacts 56 are opened again and contacts are closed again, so that the gates are opened again and the power supply breaks restored. The system operates with the rail vehicle travelling in either direction owing to extra ramps 128, 130 provided on either side of the intersection(s). During reverse direction of travel ramps 70, 72 are rendered ineffective as the relay is already set in directions operated by such ramps. Similarly, ramps 128, 130 are rendered ineffective when the rail vehicle travels from right to left, as seen in Fig. 1.
