Abstract

998,899. Firing mechanisms. RHElNMETALL G.m.b.H. July 28, 1961 [July 29, 1960], No. 27515/61. Heading F3C. Relates to a firing mechanism for ordnance in which the striker is cocked and released for fiiring by operation of a firing lever. According to the invention, a single spring 11, Fig. 1, serves to cock the striker 3 and to return it after firing to its initial position shown, the spring 11 being located between two abutments 13, 12 which are movable towards each other on actuation of the firing lever 17 to cock the striker as shown in Fig. 2, the spring 11 then being released to project the striker into its firing position from which it is carried back to its initial position by the spring. Mounted on the rear end of the striker 3 is a cocking piece 6 provided with a cocking latch 7 having two projections 8, 9. The cocking piece 6 also contains a pressure pin 10 which, in the inoperative position shown in Fig. 1, abuts the projection 8 and a disc 13 placed loosely on a pressure member 14 which is loosely mounted on the striker 3. The spindle of the firing lever 17 is formed with a projection 20 which bears against the pressure member 14 and with a projection 21 adapted to engage the projection 9 of the latch 7. When the lever 17 is pulled back by means of a firing lanyard 19, the projection 20 urges the pressure member 14 and disc 13 forwardly, whilst the projection 21 engages the latch projection 9 to move the cocking piece 6 and striker 3 rearwardly which carries with it the sleeve 12 serving as abutment for the spring 11, whereby the spring is tensioned. When the spring 11 is fully tensioned, as shown in Fig. 2, the projection 21 slides over and beyond the projection 9 so that the striker flies forwardly to the firing position. After firing the spring 11 expands rearwardly, to return the lever 17 to its initial position, and the returning pressure member 14 urges the cocking piece 6 to the left, whereby the striker is returned to the initial position. At the same time the pressure pin 10 engages the projection 8 to bring the projection 9 of the latch 7 in front of the spindle projection 21 so that all parts are automatically restored to their original positions ready for the next firing.
