Abstract
A mouldable composition for the production of permanent magnets having high heat distortion temperatures comprises (I) a finely divided permanently magnetizable material and (II) an epoxy resin-phenolic resin composition, said composition (II) comprising either an unreacted mixture, a partially reacted mixture or a completely reacted mixture of (A) an epoxy resin which is a glycidyl ether of a polyphenol, (B) a permanently fusible phenol-formaldehyde resin and (C) a hydroxy-alkylated aliphatic tertiary amine made by the reaction of an epoxide compound with ammonia or an aliphatic amine, said tertary amine being present in a catalytic amount. Specified magnetic materials are an alloy of cobalt, nickel, aluminium, titanium and iron and ceramics, e.g. sintered mixtures of pluralities of metal oxides. Specified epoxy resins are those derived fro bis-phenol-A and phenol-formaldehyde novolaks. Specified amines are those of the formula <FORM:0998853/C3/1> where R is a hydroxyalkyl group and R1 is an alkyl group, e.g. triethanolamine, N : N : N1 : N1 - tetrakis - (2 - hydroxypropyl) ethylene-diamine and a hydroxyethylated laurylamine. Examples are given.
