[Also in Division B7] A body, e.g. an aircraft wing, designed to move relative to a fluid medium has a tapered after part, and means, e.g. parts 2, 12 and a deflector 4, for ejecting a first curtain 5 of fluid, e.g. air or gas-turbine engine exhaust gases, from a position forward of the tapered part, and a second curtain 13 from a position adjacent the rear end of the tapered part, the fluid being ejected at substantial angles to the body, so that the two curtains meet adjacent the rearward end to form and contain a region 6 of above ambient pressure in contact with the tapered part. Vortices 7 are set up. In the case of bodies moving in water, the curtains may be of water, air, or other gas, or a mixture thereof.
