Abstract

997,741. Seat tracks. AMERICAN METAL PRODUCTS CO. Feb. 19, 1963 [March 22, 1962], No. 6561/63. Heading A4J. A seat track comprises a base 10 having an upwardly extending web 11 with downwardly bent flanges 13, a slide 14 of inverted channel shape with legs 15 encompassing said flanges 13, blocks 16 of low friction material disposed at each end of the slide 14 engaging the flanges 13, and a ball 18 between the base 10 and slide 14 for locking them against separation while permitting longitudinal relative movement therebetween. The blocks 16 are secured to the slide 14 and have slots 23 so that the flanges 13 can slide within them. Stops 24, 25, 26 are provided on the slide 14 and base 10 to limit the travel of the slide 14. A latching mechanism, which secures the slide at certain positions along the base, comprises fingers 39 which engage in slots in the slide 14 and one of several slots in the base 10. The fingers 39 on two parallel tracks are connected together by a wire 44 so that the fingers 39 are urged into the slots by springs 37 and pulled out of them by an arm 31. This arm 31 is pivoted on a plate 27 on one slide 14 and connected to the finger 39 on that slide and due to the connecting wire 44 operates both fingers simultaneously. A stop is provided which limits the movement of the arm 31 so that the fingers only move out of the slots in the base 10. The base 10 may have a sloping edge to support the seat at an angle or be parallel to the slide and support it horizontally.
