Abstract

A white solidifying cast iron comprises .C.3.1-3.8% .Si.1.5-3.0% .S.0.1-0.2% .Mn.less than 0.15% the balance being iron and any impurities, among which P is preferably not more than 0.15%. The alloy is suitable for centrifugally casting hollow members, especially thin walled ones. The heat treatment used may be a stress relieving anneal, a graphitizing anneal at 900-950 DEG C. followed by slow cooling.
