Abstract

A cigarette or cigar filter consists of at least two parts, the first part being provided with at least one axial passage and consisting of hydrophobic material with a smooth surface and of low heat conductivity, and the second part being made of absorbent or adsorbent porous material, the cross-sectional area of the passage or passages in the first filter part being the same as the cross-sectional area of a single channel with a circular cross-section having a maximum diameter of 1.8 millimeters, and preferably 1.0-1.2 millimeters. The filter may be made up of a plurality of first and second parts alternating with each other. The first filter part may consist of glass, poreclain, polyvinyl chloride, hard rubber, natural resins, synthetic grass or materials such as cellulose, impregnated with synthetic substances to render them hydrophobic. The second filter part may be provided with a cavity at its junction with the passage or passages in the first filter part.
