To provide a rising stiffness deflection characteristic in a torsionally resilient connection between the centre hub 1 and the outer plate 2 of a friction clutch plate for automotive transmissions, load transmitting rubber blocks 11 are moulded on four radial arms 5 of the hub 1, and bonded or adhered each side in pockets 9 formed with conically elongated clearance spaces 14 in outer plate flange members 7, so that the blocks 11 deflect initially in shear whilst heavier loads cause a ribbed end 16 of each block to move into increasing contact with the adjacent conical end of its pocket whereafter the blocks are also compressed and the stiffness considerably increased until finally, when the appropriate clearances 14 are absorbed, a near solid drive is effected with the rubber in volumetric compression. The rubber blocks may be attached direct to the side walls of the pockets 9 or, as shown, to plates 12 located therein by flanged edges 13. The arms are basically rectangular in cross-section and recessed each side to incease the surface area for rubber adhesion. The ratio of the thickness of the section to the axial width of the pockets is between 0.4 and 0.7.
