Abstract

996,768. Rollers. INTERNATIONAL COMBUSTION (HOLDINGS) Ltd. Sept. 24, 1963 [Sept. 25, 1962], No. 36438/62. Heading F2U. [Also in Division B2] An edge-runner mill comprises a horizontal rotatable table 1, Fig. 1, and two or more grinding rollers arranged for rotation about axes inclined to the table surface each of the rollers being formed at least partially of a number of removable segments 7. The roller 7 has a shaft 2 with bearings 3, 4 for a head 5 which has a flange 6 and the wearing surface is formed by the segments 7, each of which has an inwardly directed shoulder 8 which lies along the face 9 of the flange 6. The inner face 10 of each segment 7 is flat and the faces abut the flats of an octagonal surface adjacent the root of the flange 6, the segments being bolted to the flange by bolts 11, whose heads are in recesses 12 in the segments. Each segment also has an arcuate flange 13 mating with a corresponding surface on an annular, truncated-conical, retaining member 14, and secured by bolts 15 which pass through the segments 7 and the flange 6. For each segment 7 there are two bolts 11 with one bolt 15 between them. In a second embodiment, the head 5 has a flange 17, Fig. 3, around which segments 18 are laid with their arcuate inner walls in contact with the circumferential wall of the flange. The segments are secured to the flange against axial movement by an annular conical retaining member 22 and locking elements 23, which each have a nose portion engaging a groove in the rear end face 20 of each segment to hold it against the flange. The retaining member 22 is secured to the flange 17 by screws, and the locking elements 23 are bolted by bolts 26 passing through the elements 23, the flange 17 and the member 22. By. releasing a bolt 26 and removing a locking element 23, a single segment may be lifted away from the flange 17 for replacement. The locking elements 23 may alternatively be replaced by a single onepiece locking, member, and the retaining member 22 may be formed in segments integral with the segments 18, so that the locking member 23 can be dispensed with.
