Abstract
<PICT:0996725/C6-C7/1> An electroplating test apparatus comprises a rotatable cathode panel 16 having vertical portions 20, 22 defining a recess therebetween. In operation, changes in current density at the cathode surface within the recess as the cathode rotates simulate those at the surface of a workpiece during a barrel electroplating. An electroplating test tank 2, which may be of transparent synthetic plastic or porcelain, comprises a cathode chamber 4 separated by a pervious or perforated wall 8 from a chamber 6 containing an anode 14. Electrolyte within the tank may be heated, e.g. by an immersion heater in the anode chamber. The cathode may be V-shaped, Fig. 1, or U-shaped, Fig. 6 (not shown). After deposition, the cathode panel is removed from the tank, unfolded, and the deposit examined.
