Abstract
996,647. Screw extrusion presses. O. BRATEN. Sept. 5, 1963 [Sept. 6, 1962], No. 35189/63. Heading B1D Six rings 10-15, Fig. 2, each provided with one-third of a complete thread, form part of the screw of a screw extrusion press. Their normal position is as shown in dotted lines in the developed view of Fig. 3. They may be moved around the reduced core 17, Fig. 2 (by amounts of from 1f-6f, Fig. 3), and locked by set screws 18, to produce the pattern shown in full lines in Fig. 3, so as to reduce the effective pitch of the screw (by an amount K) and thus increase the compression ratio (the material under treatment being moved to the left). One or two rings only may be moved by much larger amounts to provide openings in the otherwise continuous thread ; this results in dividing up and mixing of the press cake.
