996,330. Indicating-apparatus. S. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd. Nov. 22, 1963 [Dec. 3, 1962; April 24, 1963], Nos. 45703/62 and 16104/63. Heading G1J. [Also in Division G3] Means for releasably securing an instrument to a display panel 2, e.g. a speedometer to the fascia panel of an automobile, comprises a grommet of resilient material such as rubber of 60‹ Shore hardness, having a portion 3, 4, 10 shaped to grip the panel round the perimeter of a hole cut in the panel, the grommet having one or more inwardly projecting ribs such as 6, 7 which are adapted to be deflected when an instrument case is pushed into the assembled grommet and then to grip the instrument case. The grommet may be moulded as a ring in the form shown. Alternatively, it may be a length cut from a strip, the material being sufficiently pliant to allow the length to be bent round the hole prior to insertion of the instrument, the ends being joined or left adjacent each other. The first Provisional Specification describes an arrangement in which a portion of the grommet on one side of the panel has three relatively thin ribs which are deflected partly in the axial direction by the instrument case.
