995,831. Slitting webs. FLEMING & SONS Inc. May 25, 1964, No. 21594/64. Heading B4B. In a slitter in which a paper web 15 fed from a roller 12 is slit by one or more wheels 19 and re-wound on rollers 14, a rotatable circular blade 21 is aligned with the or each wheel 19 and has knife edges 28, 29 for engaging the slit edges of the web to strip loose fibres therefrom. The knife edges 28, 29 are formed by slots 30, 31 which also form knife edges 32, 33 whereby the blade is reversible. The thickness of the blade is greater than the space between the slit edges of the web. A horizontal bar 34 underlies the webs between the blade(s) and a roller 18.
