Abstract

994,011. Railway vehicle undercarriages. NATIONAL CASTINGS CO. Feb. 7, 1964 [Feb. 27, 1963], No. 5328/64. Heading B7L. A railway vehicle bogie bolster 5, Figs. 1 and 3, is snubbed by a friction wedge 15 engaging a wear surface 18 in the bolster and a surface 46, Fig. 4, of a chock 28 seated against a support 32 extending between the side walls of the bogie side frame 6 the chock being removable from the side frame in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bolster through an opening 40 which is slightly larger than the end face of the chock. When the wedge 15 is depressed against its spring 27 by a pay bar 51 passing through a side frame opening 66, a lug 44 on the chock can be passed through a notch 48. When the pay bar is removed the wedge 15 moves the chock into engagement with the support 32 on the lug 44 is interlocked with a portion 33 of the side frame 6. A lug 54 of the chock spaces the latter from the side frame wall remote from the opening 40. A second lug 53 is provided in order that the chock may be used at the opening 40 on the opposite side of the bolster opening 7. To facilitate assembly of the bolster in the side frame the wedge 15 and its spring may be held retracted in an opening therefor between the side frame walls, before the chock is inserted by a pin passing through holes 70 in the walls. In a modification the chock may have a re-entrant portion engaging a projecting support in the side frame, as described with reference to Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). The wedge and its spring can be removed through a side frame window 21. Specification 934,841 is referred to.
