Abstract

993,690. Fluid heater cleaners. DIAMOND POWER SPECIALTY CORPORATION. April 17, 1964 [May 21, 1963], No. 15965/64. Heading F2N. [Also in Division B2] Apparatus for mounting in the wall and spraying the interior of a heat-exchanger includes a spray tube 26 adapted for reciprocation between retracted and projected positions relative to the heat exchanger, means responsive to movement of the tube for starting and stopping a flow of liquid treating solution in the tube to effect, in operation, a spraying cycle, and means responsive to movement of the tube for causing a supply of pressurized gas to flow through the tube to purge the tube at the end of a spraying cycle. As shown, the tube 26 is projected and retracted by a double-acting, airoperated cylinder 32 and carries a block 42 from which projects a pin 44, the latter, as the tube is moved to and fro, actuating bifurcated cams 48, 52 to respectively open and close valves 50, 54. The valve 50 controls the flow of compressed air from an accumulator 74 to the spray tube to purge the tube of the residuary slurry of liquid chemical additive such as magnesium oxide and/or calcium oxide which is sprayed on to the heat-exchange surfaces; the valve 54 controls the flow of slurry from a supply header 60, the slurry passing to a fitting 66 connected by a flexible hose to the spray tube. A continuous trickle of compressed air is discharged from the spray tube when the tube attains the fully retracted position thereof. A number of sprayers may be operated by an automatic sequentially phased control system.
